Daniel Craig was asked by Steven Colbert: "You get one song only to listen to for the rest of your life. What is it?" Answer: "Love and Affection by Joan Armatrading". Hell yeah, James F. Bond!

The first time I heard this I was living in a little tent in Alaska in the late 70's - it was on the radio, playing from some nightclub and it sounded much like this show. An excellent band backing up an amazing, powerful talent. I was enthralled, and still am.

@@kiereluurs1243 It's not the generation. The music industry has moved away from paying for bands. So it's hard to get a start. Generalising helps nobody. Play them something good. They're human too.

I saw Joan in May 1980 at the start of her tour in Munich and was very impressed because I didn't know her before. But when I was in London in August 1980, I was lucky enough to enjoy Joan again at the end of the same tour.

She had to have been an influence on Tracy Chapman. I hear of lot of this person's style in Tracy Chapman's music.

They are both Black and female and play guitar, that's it. Tracy Chapman is much more folky and more political, none of the funk edge Joan Armatrading has.

It’s a spectacular backing band. Their quest to become the polished sidemen they became was realized in an era that may never repeat itself again and for anyone who recognizes the level of interplay that is on display here, good for you. They all check their ego and accompany Joan Armatrading with deft warmth and respect. This is a clinic in what is required to be ready for prime time. All these players came up the ranks by being on stage with talent and friendly competition that pushed each other, to achieve the expertise it takes to be world class, backing band musicians. There’s less opportunity these days to get up on a stage and log in the hours it takes to sound like this. That’s part of the reason why there’s such a big difference between music created then as opposed to now.
