I first heard this heartfelt song when I heard Donovan singing it for the opening of the movie, "Poor Cow" I have always loved this song for the strong message it speaks of.Love Joan's cover. Great, great song....."Be Not Too Hard for life is short and nothing is given to man"....

I'm a year younger than Joan, so she represents something special. I will always be grateful to her for introducing me to this song, but also to "There But For Fortune" and "No Man Is an Island" (from the album "Baptism"). Maybe I'm naive, but they are pieces you could live your life by.

Credo di essere diventato buddhista ascoltando questa ballata, nell'inverno del 1969, mentre fitti fiocchi di neve cadevano, imbiancando il selciato di via Madonnina, nel quartiere di Brera, a Milano. Joan Baez canta «Be Not Too Hard», dall'album Vanguard del 1967 «Joan». I versi di Christopher Logue sono musicati da un'altra leggenda del folk: Donovan Leitch. Sui titoli di coda della mia vita vorrei questa canzone.
