Hi Joan, I was taught (by John Roberts) to respond to the 2NT at the 3 level only with 16+ points. With a minimum holding we respond at the 4 level, giving partner the extra info. I'm intrigued by responder's rebid showing a control, which we weren't taught. What I'm seeing from this video is that you don't place the extra importance on the points, rather the shape instead.

Hi John is an excellent teacher. 16+ points without a shortage is fine, I just say better than minimum which is the same. There are partnership variations to the responses to Jacoby 2NT but the whole idea is that if you can show shortages and controls you are able to bid much lower point slams than thought. Yes, it's all about shape. John would agree with that. Responder's rebid after opener shows a shortage is a control looking for slam, and say the shortage info is GOOD. If it's not just go to game.
