Legendary British Hollywood star and former "Dynasty" actress JOAN COLLINS without make-up, wigs or dressed up, shows Michael Parkinson in his TV special "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Joan Collins But Were Afraid To Ask" how to put on make-up and apply colours, lipstick and false eyelashes for both daily wear and evening wear, for going out, doing films or TV shows. For those of you who do not have her Beauty book: She uses Clinique Superbalanced Make up foudation and Estee Lauder Lipgloss. Isn't it amazing how natural she acts wihile putting on her make up in front of a man and a camera? That is trully amazing and inspiring! I guess Joan is much less vain in real life than in her part as Alexis. She is entirely British, not American. Could you imagine a Hollywood actress 30 years ago to put on her make-up on her bare face in public? That is what she is doing in her video... One of my alltime role models!

Joan is not bare faced by any stretch. I can see upper and lower eyeliner at the moment she begins speaking to the interviewer. No matter how dark and thick a Caucasian woman's eyelashes are, they will never mimic a continuous dark liner. Besides, she's always been naturally pretty--women like her are nowhere near as insecure about being seen nearly or completely makeup-less in the way a good number of average -looking women are. Joan and her late sister Jackie luckily won the good looks lottery. They never had to cope with the sometimes constant anxiety of persistent judgement--something which most women the world over and throughout history have had to endure. This goes as far back as the ancient Greeks---whose men were aghast about how badly, in their view, females age over time.

She is a seasoned actress who also has done theater, all theater actors are very confident putting on make up as they often have to do it themselves and in a time crunch unlike in tv or movies where they got a make up artist, and the quickness in which she does it proves it, also it is strange you mention how natural she acts in front of others putting on make up, why wouldn't she?, she has done so many nude photoshoots and filming, imagine if she won't feel comfortable simply applying make up. 😂 She is a woman who is very comfortable with herself.

This was done in 1980, so she is 47 here. Amazing. Gorgeous with no makeup at all and with full makeup. I'm surprised commenters didn't start in on the plastic surgery comments. She says that she tried botox one time and hated it. I believe her. She has been stunning for her entire life and still is in her 80s.

This was amazing to watch!! All the things she was saying while putting on her makeup is what the beauty gurus are saying today. And, that she was using artist brushes from an art store, how to contour for a double chin, going from day to night. The woman really new what she was doing, very impressed, she looked gorgeous before the makeup but after she looked glamorous. I'm southern so we like big hair. My grandmother lived with us all my life and she was very glamorous. My mother was a tom boy so my grandmother was the one that I would watch doing her makeup. Or get in trouble for going thru her makeup drawer. I once ask her why she used so much hair spray and she said My dear we are southern. I said why does that matter? Her reply was that we are a very religious people so the higher the hair the closer to God. LOL, I miss her so much!

I definitely noticed eyeliner on Joan's upper and lower lashes and what looked like a minimal amount of eyeshadow already applied before she began the full application. I never understood why she felt the need to apply so much makeup all the time--she was always very pretty and very photogenic. Lucky to have gotten the combination of dark hair, light skin, green eyes and marvelous bone structure. And Jackie was certainly as attractive as her sister, with her own unique looks.

This is so interesting...it should go in a time capsule as to how professional makeup was quickly applied by a certain class of women in the 20th Century! Imagine if we had videos like this for Ancient Egypt, 18th Century England, the Court of Versailles, etc.!! (If you're going to follow this tutorial...it looks like she's just got out of the shower -- her skin is damp -- and probably applied a little moisturizer, first. This helps the base go on smoothly, and blend together.)

Mostly The "modern Techniques" are old Techniques. The smoky eye, backing..was all new in the 1940's when makeup was new to the market. My Grandmother when she was in her 20's was one of the first of many many women to learn and sale cosmetics.

People used to say Joan Collins took the most time, effort, and product to do her makeup out of EVERY star. After watching this, I think there were a lot of haters. She did that quick and easy. They used to say Linda Gray had the best skin in Hollywood ( a broken hearted ex tried to say she had a face lift). Ms. Gray does look fantastic for her ‘70’s. I believe they meant face, meaning skin and appluinft colors and contour. Not the base foundation and eyes. But compared to what the girls are doing today like the Kardashians and MTV rap singers and those cray cray contour face kits, this is pretty tamed.

Joan can do "heavy" make-ups, as she did in the past, and still does NOW, because of who she is. It's "accepted" and"expected" to see Joan all dolled up, with loads of make-up on. AND it's where she goes to wear it!! I.e. top bat classy and glamorous places! I would look absolutely naff wearing her make up wandering around Walsall Market, shopping n Marks & Spencer's, or eating out at a Hungry Horse place!! Lol.
