I heard her say that in a previous you tube interview video. Joan said she writes between 10000&11000 letters a month answering fans…that would be @ 8 minutes a letter, around 16 hours a day, five days a week.lol..

@@harperstacey9604 Supervising and inspecting housework isn't the same as doing it. Joan had maids, but they quit on her so often that the service stopped sending them to her. She had two secretaries full-time for years, and I suppose they did some housekeeping chores when not answering fan mail.

What a classy and marvelously poised woman Joan Crawford was. She was a true vision of grandeur from the time when real movie stars roamed the earth. She was so perfectly relaxed and at ease in these interviews that you just want the interview to go on endlessly. And that fabulous face of hers. Let's just say the word iconic was never more fitting than in her case. The alpha and the omega indeed. Rest in peace wherever you are, you gorgeous creature, you!

This clip is from a time after the peak of Crawford's career. She didn't have a studio contract anymore and no steady supply of film rolls or income. Despite that, she looks totally put together. It likely was expensive to maintain the stylish wardrobes that she exhibits in this clip (the white outfit more than the initial dress). You got to give her a LOT of credit for never giving up. She kept herself in shape, stylishly dressed and handled the interview very professionally. A lot of celebrities these days appear to throw in the towel when their career starts to wane. Crawford definitely did not do that. I've always thought Crawford may get a bad wrap. She may not have been "mother of the the year" or the easiest person to be around. However, there is a LOT to admire about her work ethic and determination. Crawford came from nothing and was self-made. This clip shows that, despite being over 60 and with an accomplished career that was winding down, Crawford kept going.

This is a nice segment with Ms. Crawford - she's much more attractive in natural lighting and "daytime" makeup rather than the harshly accentuating appearances on TV during this same period - let's face it, not complicated, just a hard working gal who made the most the cards she got dealt in life - her simple downright sincerity in this interview, and kind of toothy grin, is really kind of endearing - all for a Pepsi bottling plant opening - ah, back in the day, good times :-) - thx for posting!

Boy, always a movie star! She was so practiced in being interviewed, and not all questions seem fed (for instance, when Harold Keen asks about gross on the picture). You gotta hand it to Joan, she looks like a movie star. But did you all get a handle when she dissed Christina and Christopher by only mentioning the twins at first?!
@LaDivinaLover
@LaDivinaLover 3 жыл бұрын
She didn’t diss anyone. He asked about her family. She mentioned the twins first because they both still lived with her and one happened to be with her at the time. So it was a natural jumping off point. Not to mention, At this point Christina and Christopher no longer lived with their mother. Besides she talked about Christina in the very next sentence, no reluctance at all. She logically assumed he meant the members of her family she was still rearing. As that’s who she was referring to in the sentence just before that question. (The twins would’ve been 15 at the time) Though to be quite honest and in my opinion from all of the first hand accounts and written records I’ve watched, read, and researched Christina was a manipulative monster and habitual liar. And Christopher had some sort of serious mental health problems so I wouldn’t blame her for not wanting to talk about them if that were the case. However it obviously is not the case here. I think this is a case of projection. No offense intended.

@@LaDivinaLover Well said! Christopher and Christina were grown up, out of the house and living their own lives in 1963. With a lot of help, from Joan. She mentions the twins because they were still children.. And YES, projection accounts for most of the hatred spewed toward Joan Crawford today.

Wow ... it's crazy that this random film footage exists! Joan Crawford was exactly like you would have expected her to be. I always thought she got a bad rap, and that there was much more to the stories that Bette Davis always told about her, let alone her ungrateful brat of a daughter.

@@DeepScreenAnalysisExactly, there’s no proof that Christina is lying esp when people have backed her stories. When people demonize her and call her an “ungrateful brat” (the most common phrase among Joan fans) it’s their need to believe in a wholeness of Joan’s classy, glamorous image like we see here, missing the fact that it IS an image. One can be fascinated by her and the complexity of her on and off screen life and still recognize that she was a malignant narcissist who abused her children. Whatever goodness she had buried was preserved maybe only in certain screen roles. These fans want to believe this goodness is radiating in these real life clips when they’re getting a movie star mask instead.

Wow. I always love these films of the real Joan Crawford. Look at he as she is engaging and sharp. She can bi-pass the Hollywood hype and get to the business of actual numbers with clarity and grace. So, why the hell did Ryan Murphy and Jessica Lang portray her as a quivering mess of ineptitude? "Feud" was evidently based on gossip, slander and a dim imagination.

I thought feud was pretty entertaining. But yes, I agree the casting of Jessica Lange was disagreeable since she didn’t sound or look like Joan. And feud wasn’t completely accurate at times. One instance was when Joan was doing a book signing. She told off two customers and walked out. The real Joan admired her fans very much and would never have done that.

Joan was very canny, and knew her worth got herself on the board and payroll. She worked very hard promoting Pepsi . She loved the travelling and wardrobe. A great role model for older woman when after a certain age the were tossed aside, sadly it still goes on but not to the same degree.
