As an avid TCM fan, I joined the TCM Fan Club a few months ago. I started to notice that anytime someone posted something about her, or any of her movies, it was met by a vast amount of negative comments! No other star, and there are MANY posts daily about dozens of others, is met with such negativity! I finally decided one day to post something POSITIVE about her, her career, and her vast contributions to the Golden Age of Hollywood! Sure, it was met with some negativity, but the vast majority of comments were from people who actually respected her, as if they were waiting for someone to appreciate her for the star she really was!

I notice that too and it's so unfair. NO ONE else gets the hate like her. Thank you for posting that on TCM's fan club. She doesn't deserve the complete disrespect and hate she gets. You can thank Christina for that. Especially for the joke of a film that came from her stupid book.

@@shaleenaf.7095 It happens on KZbin all the time as well. Surely with all the evidence dropped against Christina, you'd think that people would see Joan for the star and not the "child-abusing narcissist", but it just goes to show how gullible and stupid some people are. The KZbin terms of service states that (and I read through it fully) "certain types of technically manipulated content" are not permitted on KZbin, and you'd think that that would apply to Mommie Dearest conspiracy theories, but apparently that doesn't apply to comments pertaining to Joan Crawford. It's the classic story of a minority group (MD trolls) getting the majority voice, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I had heard of Joan Crawford before I heard of Mommie Dearest.

Through talent, hard work, and determination, Joan Crawford overcame a miserable childhood to become THE greatest star of Hollywood's Golden Age. She fought successfully to keep her Hollywood status and she would have fought hard to defend her reputation had the attacks against her been made during her lifetime. Your defense of Crawford now when she can't defend herself is greatly appreciated. Bless you!!

10:50 YES. I have long thought and I still do think, that CC wanted to be Joan. She wanted her fame, her fortune, her career, her life. When she failed as an actress, she was a very average one as I've seen from the posts by Concluding, she turned on Joan. She has spent her life defaming her and now in 2021, of the 4 children Joan adopted, only CC is alive. She purchased the rights to Mommie Dearest and keeps publishing a new anniversary copy. It's sick. She has failed at everything except to defame a dead woman. And she also sued her sisters after getting nothing in the will and did receive money. CC is no saint. And I challenge you to watch the 1970s interviews where she is acting the victim and so timid. And her more recent videos she's a bitter hag. Very sad woman.

It’s an outrage that Joan Crawford even needs defending against the scurrilous lies told by that ungrateful adopted daughter. Joan was a great star and a courageous woman's of quality and compassion who gave her four adopted children a better life than they could have ever had without her. Christina is a disgrace.

This is extremely insightful, and very touching. At this point a great many more people are aware that THIS was Joan Crawford, as opposed to the caricature so many have loved to hate the last 40 + years. People with insight of course never believed the nonsense. I came from an abusive home and I can spot the artifice of an abusive personality in public as opposed to how they are behind closed doors. Joan Crawford did NOT have that aura. There was an unmistakable warmth to her that cannot be played no matter how great the actress. She was no saint, she was the first to admit that. Later in life in an interview she said she wished she'd been a little less rigid with the first two kids, but all parents usually do that with the first one or two for fear of being considered a lax parent. Not to mention it appears that Christina and Christopher very much needed discipline. Perhaps much more than they actually got.

Thank you for posting this. Joan Crawford deserves to be remembered in a positive light. She remains my all time favourite actress. I first became aware of her in 1978 when at 8 years of age I saw Mildred Pierce. She always struck me as being very down to earth.I may be wrong, but I never bullied the claims Christina made against him. It never seem to ring true for me when the two younger twins said they experience nothing of what Christina described. I always found that strange as if anything if Joan had had such erratic behaviour I would’ve thought it would’ve escalated as time went on. Especially during the years her career was in decline and she was fighting to keep her place. If only Joan had lived through to the 1980s. Could you imagine her on a show like dynasty playing the mother of Alexis for example. She would’ve been a phenomenal in that role like that and been brought to the attention of a whole new generation of fans. I’ve heard so many stories about Joan Crawford. How she always remembers everybody’s name made time for everybody the crew and all of those who work behind the scenes. As well as fans that she had met. She was very much like Barbra Stanwick in that way. Completely down to earth and never forgetting in her roots with no airs and graces with her interactions with others. I love your channel and I thank you for all the gems that you bring to all us John Crawford fans. It really is appreciated.

I am without words dear Bryan. Many comments and clips that I heard/seen for the first time too. Dorothy Barrett’s words especially broke me when she said “Joan couldn’t do the things everyone else could do because she protected her image (as a star). And all she had to do was die and her daughter destroyed her image....it’s sad.”😢😢😢 Christina better keep her narcissistic head down just like when Darinka’s so-called quote was read from Christina’s book on that show. Did anyone else catch her rolling her eyes when he asked about interviewing Darinka for that information?😡 Anyway Bryan, it’s such a beautiful video and defense to Joan’s legacy. What disturbs me about Christina is, that she is not promoting her work in the name of abuse awareness or helping other children. No, it's always very Me-Centered and told in a very sensational way. No pain in her voice, no sorrow in her eyes. I'm sure the matter has grey areas but it's hard for me to believe she suffered as much as she said she did.

Have always thought Joan Crawford was a wonderful example of a strong , talented driven woman but also with a vulnerability just below the surface. She achieved stardom from nothing with no rich friends, fancy education or connections. Everything she achieved was earned by herself & sheer hard work. Yes she made mistakes , don't we all but I will never join the band of haters who have so damaged her reputation . So glad some of us are fighting back for a more balanced , fairer portrayal. So much evidence to counter the vicious ' Mommie Dearest , book. God Bless you Ms Crawford a fabulous star and a strong but also vulnerable woman.

Christina Crawford has said many contradictory things about her mother over the years and seems to be rather petty and jealous of her mother. Christina has said that she loved her mother then she has said she did not love her mother and Christina has even said Joan was jealous of her...why would a famous woman like Crawford be jealous of her adopted daughter? Christina seems to have what psychology would term a personality disorder and given the fact Joan Crawford adopted her and gave her a good life it seems sad Christina would smear Joan in public.

I believed Mommie Dearest until I saw the time lines that Christina gave for writing the book. According to her, she didn't even start writing the book until after Joan died as a way to process her grief and then a "friend" or a few "friends" read it and had to talk her in to publishing it. If you look at when Joan Crawford died on May 10, 1977 and when the book was released on October 2, 1978; it only took 17 months between dealing with her grief, writing the book, having to be convinced to publish it, sending it to and having a publisher green light it, all the edits, publishing and printing it and finally releasing it. This proves the book was either already written and maybe she was on the final edits or she already had it green lit by a publisher after sending a brief synopsis of the book. Either way she didn't have to be convinced to publish it. So, this calls anything Christina Crawford said.

Joan was a woman who worked hard to get where she was, hence she knew the value of money and hardwork, and wasn't going to spoil her kids. The two youngest twins understood this and they had a good relationship with her. The other two didn't, they wanted the privileges, just like her daughter in Mildred Pierce. Which is why she had to be strict with them. They expected all the perks of being the child of a star, except that Joan wasn't willing to give them that. These spoilt brats expect everything, and they get upset when they don't get it.

I love classic movies of the from the 30's thru the 60's. I had seen Joan Crawford in a few movies and was late in my teens when the book and later movie came out. I saw the movie first and latched onto the common public opinion of who Joan Crawford was. Eventually I read the book. By this time I was married and had three children of my own. Being a parent gave me a different view of the book. I could see that the daughter was VERY STRONG WILLED!! Although she told the story of how horrible she had been treated I could also see that she was very difficult and defiant. He mother had no clue how to deal with such disrespect. I could see that both Joan and her daughter were engaged in a battle of the wills. Children were taught to be obedient and respectful and Joan was constantly facing the opposite in her daughter. Since I read the book I have given Joan the benefit of the doubt. Yes, there are two sides to the story. In all of my studies of classic Hollywood the only one who seemed to talk negative about Joan was Bette Davis (The Feud). Yet even Bette admitted that Joan was very Professional. The grown children of other stars have written books about their famous parents but this is one of the few that was made into a sensational film. I am very thankful for this video today because you have collected Joan's side of the story. I think that you should write a book with all of this information. The general public would truly see a different side of Joan Crawford than the picture that has been painted of her. Thank you!!

So I did an emerged myself into Joan Crawford, watched her movies, interviews, documentaries etc. I think she was a strict woman, who wanted the kids to survive on their own and this was Christina’s “fuck you” moment when Joan died because Joan took them out of the will when she found out Christina was writing a book.

Instead of honoring her mother, Christina Crawford scorned her with exaggerated tales of abuse and even lying to sell a book. It's alway been obvious to me Christina was very jealous of her mother. If you watch many of her interviews that jealousy reveals itself. Christina should have been adopted by someone not famous and especially by someone not beautiful. Joan Crawford was not only a great star but a great actress. Her performances in Mildred Pierce, Humoresque, Sudden Fear, Autumn Leaves, Possessed (both the 1932 version and the 1947 version) A Woman's Face, Sadie MacKee, Flamingo Road, and yes, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane prove her to be a great actress. She was nominated best actress three times winning for Mildred Pierce. Her adopted daughter couldn't deal with that. I'm sorry Joan Crawford adopted her. I am fortunate to have lived during a period when Joan Crawford was honored for her great acting. Joan Crawford and Olivia de Havilland will always be my favorite film actresses of all time. Thank you for finally devoting more than hour defending this unforgettable actress.

How heartbreaking for Joan Crawford to have had such a horrible daughter! Listening to the twins description of their loving mother was such a dramatic contrast I find it hard to believe Christina! I understand some children have a different understanding and view point of how they saw their parents and I think Christina being the eldest child was possibly treated a bit stricter than the other children but that happens in all families. It's so sad and disappointing that some parents are looked at in the eyes of Christina and that the parents whether mom's or dad's or both are so humiliated by their children in such horrific ways!

Thank you for putting these clips together. Love Joan, and it’s nice to hear first hand accounts that all contradict the book her bratty daughter wrote to make money.

Christina Crawford is nothing more than a complete and utter professional victim. She has made more money off her supposed victimhood than she would ever have at anything else. Brava, Lucille La Suer!! And rest in peace, darling.

I'd go back and get a copy of all the checks John Crawford wrote Christina supporting her from 1960 to 1977. That would say a lot

That book and film imply that Joan never helped her AT ALL. It's so good to hear from people who can refute that from first hand personal experiences with them. Christina has been proven to have colored at least some of the truth and to have outright lied in at least one case. That should be enough for anyone operating from an objective and logical point of reference that NOTHING Christina has claimed can be taken as fact.

@@brt5273 She helped her as far as she could. But Joan, who knew the value of hardwork as she herself came from a dirt poor background, wasn't about to waste all her hard earned money on an ungrateful and undeserving brat.

This documentary proves she was very misunderstood! She wasn’t a perfect person but she wasn’t a monster either. She definitely had a hard childhood which probably explains some of her theatrics but she couldn’t stand up for herself after she died, but this documentary sure did.🥰

Happy Birthday to you Joan; certain there is a heavenly cake surrounded by all your wonderful classic actors. Notice all those who supported Joan were not as promoted by the media. Only wish Bette Davis's interview was audible but I remember her saying Joan was like her when it came to being a professional.

BACK IN 1961 I VISITED HOLLYWOOD WITH MY FATHER....HE WAS CLOSE FRIENDS WITH THE FATHER OF HAL BARTLETT WHO WAS DIRECTING "THE CARETAKERS" AT THE OLD RKO LOT, CHANGED TO DESILU ..... I WAS ESCORTED ONTO THE SOUND STAGE AND GIVEN A SEAT NEXT TO NONE OTHER THEN JOAN CRAWFORD WHO WAS APPEARING IN THE FILM.....SHE SMILED A WARM SMILE AND ASK ME MY NAME, WHERE I WAS FROM, ETC.....WE HAD A CHAT AND THEN SHE WAS CALLED ON SET BY THE DIRECTOR....THIS WAS A REAL THRILL FOR A HICK FROM KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI WHO HAD SEEN ALL CRAWFORD'S FILM I COULD....I WAS ONLY 22 SO THERE WERE NOT MANY FILMS AVAILABLE ON TV IN THE EARLY SIXTIES....I LEFT FEELING THIS WAS A REALLY NICE LADY WHO HAD APPEARED PRETTY TOUGH IN HER FILMS....WHEN HER DAUGHTER CAME OUT WITH THAT JUNK AFTER JOAN'S PASSING I DOUBTED MOST OF WHAT SHE PRINTED IN THAT BOOK. CALLED "MOMMIE DEAREST"....AND THE MOVIE WAS EVEN WORSE.....MONEY TALKS....

Christina tried to ruin Joan's image for everyone who knew her and any new fans that would come to know her. I'm sure that it burns her ass that no one has one good thing to say about her but everyone loves Joan Crawford instead. I saw Mommie dearest before I saw any of Joan's real movies. It didn't effect how I see her.
