I knew a LOT of those pissed off people lol. I tried and could not make them understand that she was not calling God a slob - deaf, pissed off ears is as far as it went. I, however, have always thought this song asked a lot of good, valid questions and it was beautifully written.

ThinkingT, I love this song. I was born and raised in a radical Baptist family. It was a very unloving abusive hateful type upbringing, which is why (as an adult) I steered completely away from "that kind of dogma garbage". I like the way you think and I also love that Einstein statement behind you. I'll be checking out your channel from now on.

I can relate being raised in an evangelical (Alliance/Pentecostal AGC Baptist, Salvation Army) family. My family was not the prob it was the "believers" in the churches. After rebelling and doing the whole sex, drugs ,rock n roll scene til I almost died on speed OD, and then encountering a demon when I didn't believe in the supernatural, I conceded that there had to be a good supernatural realm also. YHVH is Yehovah who is El Elyon (the Most High God) . It's only been after decades of my life that thru much study (including Hebrew ) I arrived at knowing that (and you of course are entitled to your position) there is a trinity even in what is called the Old Testament. Dr Michael S Heiser helped me to see it

Really like your thoughtful and open approach. Would like to see your reaction or thoughts on the movie The Last Temptation of Christ. That one prompted a wee backlash. One of Us is an interesting song. The music video seems very 90’s. I think people can project their own understanding into the meaning of the song, like with most good songs. And of course, the US led the field in being reactionary to it. Go figure. But in fairness, one should note that many Christians loved this song. I just read a really nice essay underscoring how purely Christian the song is and another piece that was a boorish rant.

@dantallman5345 Thank you for the kind words and thoughtful post--I'll put some thought into the Last Temptation and see if anything of substance comes up, as it's been decades since I'd seen it so I'm not sure how relevant my thoughts would be. As for the boorish rant, such is life, and such are people. I'm glad there was at least one good piece in the mix!

Yes God was once one of us, when he condescend to enter his creation, to redeem us to himself, however he lived the perfect life, he was never a "slob like one of us" yes God gave us thinking, logical, critical, questioning minds, but not to blaspheme!! You don't believe in the Trinity? Ever read John 1, Hebrews, Isaiah? The bible itself??? True the word Trinity wasn't coined until the second century, however the precept of the trinitarian concept is from beginning to end!!!

Since you seemed to really enjoy this song, I strongly recommend you watching the tv series, “Joan of Arcadia.”. This song features prominently in the series, particularly the first two or three episodes. It ran in the 1990s but was, unfortunately, short-lived. I digress but why are awesome shows always cut short but crap (looking at you Kardashians and Honey Boo Boo!) stays on for years?!? So discouraging. Love your reactions and truly hope you get the chance to check out the tv show.
