Who among us is still scouring the web for Joan's videos and enjoying them to this day? Raise your arm, if you're one of them. lasbagman1 Joan was a very nice person in real life and loved her fans. When her husband killed Himself and lost her late night talk show in 1987, the industry shunned her and Joan herself in an interview that NOBODY would give her a job and her fans who saw her on the street or airports, they all encouraged her and gave her moral support. She autographed her book “Still Talking” when a stagehand took it backstage and addressed me and signed it. I treasure that book and her legacy. Today we have slugs like Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman Chelsea whoever etc. 😑 So i will enjoy these clips of Joan and laugh.. 👍

@@SaxonC - The industry shunned her because of all her backstage shenanigans. Well documented.
@WikeddTung6 жыл бұрын
@cheshire cat She did not. That's something that got taken out of context after she dropped dead. There was a documentary made of about her in 2010 and in one scene she's talking about how many people depend on her for their living and how she's basically a small industry. What she said was, "I put a lot of people's kids through school." meaning a lot of people depended on her to earn the living that took care of their families. She never paid for anybody's education outside of her own family and if you look for evidence that she did you won't find any. And she was shunned because she backstabbed Johnny Carson who had given her a huge break. What she did to Johnny was disloyal and self-interested and when her talkshow bombed she found herself on the outs with a lot of people deservedly.

Perhaps is it the fact that she had a very sharp tongue that she was seen as a 'vulgar, nasty woman' while a male comedian could have said the same things she said but be praised for it. *just KZbin random male comedians, because you know they're there* She paved the way for a lot of women in showbusiness, not to mention she kept working until the day she died. We were friends with the managers of the club and they gave us a front row booth and sent us bottles of Crystal champagne to drink. Joan started to pick on one of the girls in my group who was quite shy and would not let up. Towards the end of the show she apologized to her and called out to the waiter to bring our table "whatever we were drinking". The waiter yelled back - they are drinking Crystal Champagne!. Joan had to gulp twice but had no choice but to send us a bottle of the expensive stuff. She will always be missed.
