I am so sad to hear Joanie passes away as did Ann Calvello. RIP girls. You brought an hour of joy per week to my HELLISH household.

@@stephengiorgis7072 Yes. I gained all matter of respect for Jan once I found this out. I mean, lord, you would think they couldn't stand each other, but off the track they were best friends. Still gets me to this day!

Lots of women were great roller derby skater, but none of them stacked up as tall as Joan Weston.

Gotta disagree with you on this one, Bob. When Vallow was in her prime, Weston couldn't handle her. Vallow skated for a time in Roller Games before she came to Derby; however, I do believe it was Weston that trained her! As stated in my post above, I could not believe how close they were off track. If they would have ever skated together, THAT women's team would have been unbeatable! Of course, Weston would have had to skated "red" because Vallow never skated "white"!!! Loved them both and sure do miss those days.

It is noted that Roller Derby was the sport that was loved by the Inner city poor folks....should be popular today, if it made a comeback.

No good skaters today which is sad!!!

Ain't gonna happen, Stan. Have you seen what passes for "Roller Derby" in this day and age? Only women skate--on a FLAT TRACK--and they cannot even stand on that! These women's leagues of today are more concerned about some flashy nickname than actual skating. I would LOVE to see it make a comeback, but all the great ones are gone (just about).

LMAO........Baker kicked Erich's ass then Weston kicks Vallow's ass.....these folks got their money's worth that night for sure!

I still do not know what the hell Joanie ever saw in Nick Scopas, or what Vallow ever saw in him either, as he was married to Joanie when this game was skated but had previously been married to Vallow. Talk about Peyton Place! Scopas was nothing but a punk, and not even that good of a skater when he was skating.
