I watched and attended a few games in the 70’s and loved it. I’ve seen today’s 2019 Roller Derby and it’s such a joke.

Ya. They skate on a *flat* surfaces nowadays. That reduces speed. Surfaces nowadays often appear to be concrete, which has no give like wood does, so it's bad for skaters, orthopedically.

Overall today's Roller Derby for the most part use the name & position of Jammer. That's where it all ends. Yes it's very slow & more like the late Jerry Seltzer stated in an interview "More like a Rugby scrimmage." Not meant as offensive either it does appear to be more similar to like Rugby on skates.
