Record labels were real assholes back in those days... they didn't want to recognize female rock stars and female guitarists as good as Joan Jett and Lita Ford. Joan showed them all that you can't hold back true talent no matter who it comes from. Before her, they manufactured female rockstars like Susie Quatro...who was really more of a Pop Star than anything else. She had the look and a good voice but a Rock Star she was not. Joan kicked that door down. Joan was not only a talented guitarist but an amazing vocalist and her band was and always have been pretty killer. She showed the world that you can be beautiful, strong, determined, and incredibly talented all at time same time without being an asshole. (unlike her male counterparts in the day).

I saw here at the airport in 1982. She had a scarf over her face but she took it off to talk to someone. I immediately knew it was her. I said to my friend, "I think that's Joan Jett." He immediately got up and went over to talk to her. She never got out of her seat but she put her hand on his face. When he came back I asked what went down. He said that was between him and her. She now has her own shop doing body n paint on hot rods. The tech school also had a music program and she met a few people there. They've got a band now. Somewhere in between all of this she also found time to give me twin grandsons! She always was my lil overachiever!
