This makes me sad. Joanne’s is the last FABRIC store. House of Fabrics, Beverlys Fabrics are long gone. I know Hobby Lobby and Walmart, even Micheals has fabric but no where near what Joanne’s offers. I won’t get into why I won’t shop at Hobby Lobby.

Is anyone old enough to remember when Joanns was mostly a fabric store? It was pretty much the only one around . I used to go with my mom, now I go with my daughter & granddaughter who is 8 & is trying to learn to crochet. We love Joanns & hope they can make it work!

When you corner the market on a product such as fabrics and quality sewing supplies, you will never go belly up. When they decided to expand to compete with Hobby Lobby, Michawls and Walmart, they shot themselves in the foot. Supply and demand economics 101.

My local Joann is really going downhill. Lots of empty shelves, in fact whole sections. The store itself is really in bad physical shape too. Lights going out, AC not working, etc. Never ever enough people at the register. But super sweet employees doing their best. I’m still going but it sure isn’t a fun shopping experience anymore. Hope they can turn it around!

Mine has looked like there should have been a Store Closing Final Days on the doors for several months and last week there was a store closing sign on the door. It looked like they stopped supplying that store at least 3 months ago and I know thread wasn't being restocked often for at least the last year.

I noticed over last few months our Joann’s had almost no yarn in stock when you looked online for it in store. Yesterday online showed a lot of yarn in new yarns and other regular yarns. Our store is always busy. It’s 2 blocks from me. I doubt it closes. I sure hope not.

Aside from some quilting specialty stores and Walmart, our city doesn't have ANYWHERE to buy fabric except one Joann store. We do have a Michael's, so there are a couple of places to get yarn, but can you imagine having no store with a decent selection fabric, notions, quilt batting, etc. in a city of 300,000? I thought as bad as retails gets, fabric, yarn and craft stores would survive because don't you have to touch and feel and see those things in person? Very disturbing!

Love the Halo 👋👋 I saw the business report 💔 They're the only fabric store in my county ! We have 2 Its a 20 minutes drive either way Haven't needed to go this year You can do online or pick up too! Id definitely stock up on basics because hard times ate here for many 🙏 All the fabric and yarn made overseas If transportation is stopped by conflict No thread fabric or fiber unless locally sourced 🙏

So, the first I had heard of this was from my kid (23), and I was told that there was a movement and people are trying to buy up stock to help Jo Anns out. I think this might be a thing that the fiber community could potentially pony up and make happen. It would need some people to get agressive on it. (Not me, I can barely function as a person). It would take some research to see what Could be done at our level as the consumer.

Joannes was my go to favorite until they let pets in. I'm deathly allergic to cats and dogs and they contaminate the fabric and yarn and I can no longer say I'm allergy free in my crafting. I only get it from online now unless it's something encased in plastic or a sealed package

JoAnn's is a 45 minute drive for me (through downtown traffic). I can't drive and have to find someone to give me a ride. Hobby Lobby and Michaels are about five minutes away. While I would love to shop exclusively at JoAnn's, it simply isn't feasible for me.

I went to my local Joanns on Sept. 28, on a Thursday around 2pm, and they were closed, locked and dark. A sign on the door said they were going to be closed that day and sorry for the inconvenience. So odd!

Over 2 years or so ago, Michaels was purchased by a flip and turn company (Apollo Global). They went private too. Just this last year they reduced all manager hours from 40 to 36….which wasn’t good if you needed the money for those hours lost. Additionally Michaels cut the hours of every team member (who wasn’t management). Say from 20 to 5- 10 hrs a week. As you can imagine they put that stress onto the management by giving them more duties. Lastly they started to sell their store credit card, daily presses from corporate to meet those expectations for a card that has an Apr of almost 30%.

My store closed almost 3 years ago…Loved it and now prices have gone up sooo much..The employees were awesome…There is one about 1 hr away but I haven’t been there,and who knows,it may close as well..I loath the Michaels near me,the employees are so rude and unfriendly..I only shop HL when I have to,or for clearance and sales…

I went to one for the very first time last month. My sister and I were the only customers there. I couldn’t believe the amount of fabric they have. My mom loves red heart yarn and I was able to find it there. If they really are closing then I need to go back down to pick up more things. I saw so many colours of canvas I haven’t seen here in Canada.

I work one night a week at our local Joann’s. I can say all my years in retail, the industry has definitely changed, particularly since the Covid lockdowns. The foot traffic is way down and don’t see any improvement there. I’m sure online sales are still way up. I couldn’t blame retail for closing stores. People just don’t go out shopping like they used to. I love fabric and yarn and have to see it in person, so it really will be sad if this chain doesn’t make it .

Andrea, last year I heard on the news that Joann had filed bankruptcy and was going to close around January/February this year but I thought they were doing better after that since it’s almost the end of the year. I’m going to be sooo sad if they go under, even tho they’re abt 2 hours one way from me, I still purchase from them. I order online and have my brother in law pick up for me.

The one in Torrance can close and it will be no great loss. They sold me a "used" $1500 overlock that was supposed to be new. I had to send it out for service before I ever used it. Shady AND sketchy. Hope they close that location.

I hope that they don’t close. They also have great jewelry findings. I do indeed remember when they were a fabric store. Unfortunately, while it’s not totally out of the way, it moved further out from where I live so I don’t go there frequently. I wish they would move closer my way. A big hole was was created when AC Moore closed. Michael’s is OK, Hobby Lobby is expensive.. Neither one was the feel of AC Moore or Joann’s, for that matter.

After having worked at a Joann Distribution Center, and based on how I and many other employees were treated in regards to production, I don't feel sorry for them closing. Not to sound lazy, but their production standards for filling store orders and moving freight is unreal. Humans have limits to the physical work they can do over the coarse of 8 or more hours. I've never been in one of their stores. I've only browsed their website, but never bought anything. Nope I don't feel sorry for Joann at all. Not to mention their prices are outrageous. I love Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn brand. They have tons of colors available at affordable prices.

I worked for them for years and they do not care about their employees, my husband has been with Home Depot as a store manager for 23 yrs and they treat him so well!! But I have to say when Joann’s has a sale, it’s worth a trip to shop … their decor barely hits the shelf before they have a 40% off sale!!

If they didn't try to rip us international buyers off, they certainly wouldn't be struggling. So many of us were made up when we found out that they were starting international deliveries and we didn't mind the delivery costs, BUT the actual yarn prices are about double what they are for those in the US, even when they are on sale 😞😞😢😢 xx

Joannes biggest mistake was enlarging from fabrics to everything under the sun then raising their prices so high they collapsed. They should have stayed all fabric and sewing notions and supplies. Period.

So now maybe no Joann's after Hobby Lobby decided to stop carrying a ton of their lines of their really nice yarn.😔 Deramore's sold out to LoveCrafts. ( Not even remotely as awesome as when it was Deramores imho) not to mention I can't even begin to buy from there after Brexit. The shipping ftom UK to US is about $120 an order. Why Hobby Lobby decided to just sell more household goods I will never know. Not what we needed. Ordering from Ice yarns will possibly be a logistic issue with the sad/tragic world events going on in Isreal.( Not getting political just speaking facts). What happens with world events is of couse much more important than the purchasing of yarn. It's just possible that shipping could become problematic. There still are a few nore options. Not sure were a good place to do a quick grab for yarn will be if Joann's goes. Michael's ? Which doesn't have as big of a selection as Joann's. This is a real bummer. 😔🧶💕

HL vastly decreased the yarn because, with the new owners, they decided that home decor is where the money is so are downsizing the arts and crafts sections. With all the other discounted decor stores out there and the resurgence of crafting, especially yarn arts, they are making a huge mistake.
