"It's quite a minority of shops that make you work it out"

But I'm willing to bet her point is she'd rather work it all out BEFORE she gets to the till, as to whether or not you're actually a) getting a bargain and b) are actually able to afford it in the first place. As someone who grew up in relative poverty, and still to this day does mental arithmetic whenever I'm in a supermarket and i'm trying to work out if their "discounts" are actually discounts (it's amazing how often they actually aren't) or if it'd just be cheaper to buy a different brand of the same thing or go to a different shop, I completely get where she's coming from.

Do you really think so? I was just wondering about this today. Are they censoring themselves a little bit nowadays because people may take offense. If it's true the sucks to be Lee - cause you have to say what you think immediately

Good for her. Fear might be the mind-killer, but a refusal to try to learn is the brain-killer.

"Dyscalculus"?! No, it's called dyscalculia. Maybe she also has "dyslexus"?

Why do we need all these labeled conditions? Maybe your just not very good at maths, that's fine, nobody's good at everything.

Discalclic is specifically about people who read numbers in the wrong order. Making it very hard to learn patterns like normal students.
@EvieCorwell

It's not the same. Dyslexia isn't just "being bad at reading" and dyscalculia isn't being bad at maths. They're genuine learning disorders.
@83gemm

Oh, yeah, god forbid we give names to disorders as we learn more about how the brain functions. Might actually make people feel like they understand their condition and feel better or even discover ways to help them. I think the bigger question is why it annoys you that it turns out people aren’t just “bad” at things.

It can be an actual condition, and those who have are indeed at a disadvantage. What I do not agree with however is just trying to excuse those who can read numbers just fine, but can't do mathematics as kids with leaning disorders. If you tell them it's okay and give them excuses just to make them feel better about themselves, it won't do them any good. Of course you don't want to call them stupid or whatnot, but do not excuse it either!
