Be careful with spray primer! Alot of brands will destroy the styrofoam! I would use a coat of modgepodge to act as a sealant, dry completely & then paint. These are adorable!

Yes I agree, do not use sprays it will eat away at the foam. You can use gesso, chalk paints, Modge Podge, diluted white school glue like Elmers or other water based primers.

Love your crafts and to hear you and your son working together. Spray paint melts styrofoam some times. My dear friend does flower arrangements. She told me once to use a piece of the styrofoam you cut off to sand it down. You can also by a heat stick to cut the styrofoam on-line. #gingerbreadgirl

My gosh...I just adore you..and Eric is right spray paint will mess up the foam..But..Gesso Will seal it. Just paint a coat of gesso would do great..and will fill up the surface a bit and smooth it down..you can find Gesso at Hobby Lobby..Michael's act. Love these

Ha, I was being a nerdy photographer there. In portraiture photography it's the highlight from the flash reflecting in the eye. Because of that we use round light modifiers to shape the highlight into a round circle to create a natural look. See there I go.

to clean your knife: take an old damp towel, and fold it over till you can't feel the heat of the knife, Keep it turned on, and rub the knife on the towel. Do this several times. turn off knife. I find it's easier to turn the foam on it's side to cut. make your circle, cut it out in a square, (as close as possible, then make several cuts towards your circle, the remove the excess of foam I love my knife!! and use it all the time!!
