Be careful with spray primer! Alot of brands will destroy the styrofoam! I would use a coat of modgepodge to act as a sealant, dry completely & then paint. These are adorable!

Yes I agree, do not use sprays it will eat away at the foam. You can use gesso, chalk paints, Modge Podge, diluted white school glue like Elmers or other water based primers.

Love your crafts and to hear you and your son working together. Spray paint melts styrofoam some times. My dear friend does flower arrangements. She told me once to use a piece of the styrofoam you cut off to sand it down. You can also by a heat stick to cut the styrofoam on-line. #gingerbreadgirl

My gosh...I just adore you..and Eric is right spray paint will mess up the foam..But..Gesso Will seal it. Just paint a coat of gesso would do great..and will fill up the surface a bit and smooth it down..you can find Gesso at Hobby Lobby..Michael's act. Love these

Ha, I was being a nerdy photographer there. In portraiture photography it's the highlight from the flash reflecting in the eye. Because of that we use round light modifiers to shape the highlight into a round circle to create a natural look. See there I go.

Hi Joann I’ve just discovered you channel and WOW I’m now hooked . There has been very little housework done since I have ! I just love it , I’m from England and we has very little in this style of crafts , I’ve been trying to source the materials needed for the gingerbread people . There’s no where near the availability over here for embellishments and styrofoam . Keep up the tutorial as you make beautiful things and teach it so well just fabulous,just what I needed to cheer me up during this terrible pandemic we are all living through stay safe new friend regards Catherine

If there are thrift stores in your area, look for inexpensive clothing that has ribbons or lacing which you can use for bows.
