"I would tell my mom, it's just so enlightening. That's the only word I could think of when I would talk to her, that it's so enlightening. So I'm doing all these things, and everything at home is a big fat mess. But everything I was learning at church just all made sense. And it's funny because I had learned those things before, but now it was different because I was trying to gain my own testimony. Everything just clicked for me, the restoration made sense and I wanted to learn more. I really wanted the husband to go on this journey with me, but he just wasn't really having it. So things got pretty bad where I felt like he needed to move out. I remember every step I would take, I would pray like, 'okay, Heavenly Father, I think this is the right thing. I'm going to do it unless you tell me not to,' is usually how I would approach it. And every time I did that, it was almost right afterwards I would get some kind of confirmation blessing that told me yes."

Thank you for sharing, Joanne. A part of your story reminded me of a similar experience. When I was 18, I quit attending for a while. I was living with my sister, who was very antagonistic towards the Church. It was just easier to stay away at the time. Within about six months, I was starting to feel a void and knew I needed to go back. When I found myself alone, I prayed for help. I explained to Heavenly Father that I was shy and didn’t know how to return to a ward where I barely knew anyone. A few minutes after finishing that prayer, I received a phone call from the ward YSA rep, inviting me to activities and offering to give me rides to church. And then later that evening, my home teacher called me and scheduled a visit. He told me how nervous he was calling someone he didn’t know, but the Spirit was relentless with him until he called. Pretty amazing! ❤

Great story! I love stories with these 'coincidences' that happen when we do what is right. How often had you been praying such prayers at that point? Same question I would like to ask Joanne.

It is enlightening ❤ I love and agree in my experience that when we sacrifice or "wrestle" as Enos did for significant periods of time, great clarity and enlightenment come from studying the Book of Mormon. Those who haven't experienced it cannot comprehend it. But such enlightenment is as real as any other force in the universe.

I love that someone else has experienced the “it was the best of times during the worst of times” part of marriage. I was coming back to the Church and was happier than I’d ever been, in a Ward I loved, in a town I loved and my marriage was falling apart and I was so unhappy. This was a great podcast. Thank you!

Thank you so much. Ever since my divorce, I’ve felt like an outcast and a charity case in the church. It’s been 8 years, and I went from teaching Relief Society to never being asked to do more than play piano/organ (I’m not great at organ), never being asked to speak in Sacrament Meeting. I didn’t rebel until a few years ago. I am back, but I have been mourning my children’s losses and praying for a husband. It’s so hard being alone. Thanks for giving me hope that maybe I’m not completely useless.

I’ve been in wards East to west in the US and I’ve had divorced RS presidents and young women leaders. Tell your ministering brothers and sisters today that you feel like an outcast. They will report it up the chain and your Bishop needs to be aware and fix this asap. Sister, you are not an outcast one whit! Jesus has zero outcasts in his kingdom.

I have felt the aloneness at church after my divorce. Its so sad to feel out of sorts. But, I play the Organ every Sunday. I have been shown and felt the love of God. It was given to me so I can love inspite of my aloneness. I am working on being in gratitude now. I go to church feeling alone with my desire to serve others that feel alone.

@@bfiflyer that’s really inspiring. I learned when I’ve served in some callings that there are many who are married who feel lonely and you’d never guess it by looking at them. Reaching out to everyone blesses everyone reached out to because you never know what’s on their plates. Even playing the organ lifts our spirits. I need to remember to thank ours more often because music is the best part of our meetings to me. Sometimes I wish we could spend the whole meeting singing hymns of praise and supplication. Funny I moved from Las Vegas to Provo for a fresh start from a relationship that ended. I blew off two sets of missionaries then the third I told myself got nothing else to lose. Then during the missionary lessons thought one of the sister missionaries liked me. I bought into the nonsense that everything happens for a reason. Put my whole heart into joining the church only to be brutally ghosted by this missionary. Since she refused to acknowledge me once she got home I can only presume she never was interested in me then once she got the baptism out of me she just tossed me away. I was devastated because I fully believed that this was a “sign” of god. Only to be made a fool of. I hold god personally responsible and until he accepts accountability I won’t give him the time of day
