As a Brazilian, I could not be happier to see you talking about Fonseca again, for us Brazilians, it's the next opportunity to see a new Guga or someone who can be bigger than he was. By the way, I can't wait to go to the US and take some lessons with you!

@@grapefruitsyrup8185 Have seen a couple of matches from him and his serve seems to be pretty strong too. Probably will develope even further as he grows into his body, but he has a mich better serve than Alcaraz or Sinner at this age.

As a baseball player in nature learning the two-handed backhand is pretty hard, because it's like batting from the opposite direction that you are used to batting from. For example, if you are a right handed batter in baseball you are used to the motion of the two-handed backhand of a lefty tennis player.
@claudiow112913 күн бұрын
there are some female tennis players who have two handed both forehand and backhands. Also a lot of them use 2 hands for volleys too. they need stability for the shot because they have weaker arms. In baseball maybe it's the same principle... The ball is very hard and also the stick, and it comes with a lot of energy, so the batter needs stability when hitting, so using 2 hands, even male players.

@@claudiow1129 Yep. Another interesting thing is that in Canada they pretty much teach all hockey players to shoot with their less dominant hand so around 70% of the NHL all shoot left handed. The NHL players that shoot right handed are mostly natural left handed people hence why right shooting defensemen are in such high demand. It has something to do with their shots being more precise when they use the dominant hand on the top of the grip rather than using it to mostly power the shot.

A lot of discussion about straight/bent arms. I think that is easier to think of whether you drive the ball with straight arms using your shoulder strength and body rotation, or whip the ball using the kinetic chain to transfer power from the hip turn through the bent arms which are much more relaxed to allow the transfer of power. Both work but the whip is a shorter motion that develops more power in less time. I think forehand focused people tend to end up straight armed because they see the backhand as a left handed forehand and practice left handed forehands. This includes a lot of coaches with one handed backhands, who never really got the whipping bent arm action and I think therefore end up teaching what they know which is the two hander straight armed unfortunately.

Always thought the only correct way to hit a 2hbh was with the non-dominant arm doing the force and the dominant just accompanying to stabilize the racket. Well guess it’s too late to change now and it’s good give some work to non-dominant arm 😂

Fonseca pushes himself up and forward from the ground while hitting and puts all his body weight into the ball. Great footwork and weight transfer, more like a Federer with different shots. I expect him to be better than both Sinner and Alcaraz.
