Remarkable music. Rodrigo is the Spanish Stravinsky.

Rodrigo forever!

Anyone else hearing hints of SKETCHES OF SPAIN in the brass during the first third, as in Miles Davis/Gil Evans, stacked diads? Maybe this is the direct source of part of SKETCHES? I’d assumed Gil Evans invented of those rich brass sonorities- but maybe Rodrigo deserves the accolades.

I presume this to be a later arrangement of Rodrigo's Adagio from Concerto de Aranjuez which was indeed part of Sketches of Spain. However, Gil Evans arrangements for that Miles Davis album predate by a good few years the 1966 arrangement by Rodrigo himself. Perhaps he was flattered by the Evans/Davis treatment of Aranjuez and acknowledged what they'd done by using the wind ensemble here?

@@maxmerry8470 I think that’s quite solid musical archeology. Thank you for the analysis!

@Brad4Ellis.....Further digging reveals that Rodrigo was not at all happy about his music being used by Davis/Evans without his permission. And yet, the wind arrangement here does bear some resemblance to Evans so...who knows?

@@maxmerry8470 This has very little do with Aranjuez.

You're right. It is a different composition and not a rearrangement. However, there are a few faint echoes of the Aranjuez Adagio.
