I was told once by an HR recruiter that the number of applications is incorrect. It's actually number of clicks on the application. Most people don't actually end up submitting an application.

Great discussion about the buzzwords you avoid… I feel the same… my boomer parents say I’m just being too picky etc., but it’s really about having standards. I don’t wanna work for a place where I’m expected to be a performative “rock star” or golden retriever… I don’t wanna take a role where I’m overworked & underpaid… I don’t want a workplace culture that feels like “family”… I literally just wanna show up, do my work, and go home. And get paid in a way that reflects my education/credentials. End of.

YESSS!!!! I couldn't agree more. I feel like a shift is coming where this is the new mindset. Putting yourself before a job, having REAL work-life balance, etc. I know some people make their job everything, but many of us don't and we get judged negatively for it or are not paid fairly.

I feel like it’s a generational thing, with the influx of younger/millennial/gen z folks in the workplace and taking a stand… Putting ourselves before a job, like you said… More and more ppl are actively rejecting the societal narrative that, as an adult, “you are your job”… We’re fed that idea our whole lives, and then things don’t go as planned… Like it’s no wonder why there’s so many adults feeling empty, lost, adrift…

Thank you for sharing. I classify myself as an employed-unemployed individual, meaning I am employed but looking for a job I really would enjoy doing. I am over working and being miserable. It just seems like the job market is horrible right now. It takes forever to hear back regarding your application or interview and no one wants to really pay you what you request. All low-ball offers.

I have applied to 38 jobs over the last 3 months and haven't had a single phone call. It is really tough out there and so discouraging. I hope the market changes soon so we can both find something!

I watched an interesting KZbin video the other week that companies that constantly have jobs on offer aren't actually recruiting, they're just keeping jobs on job boards in case they need to recruit and to keep their name in circulation.

I am also laid off and have seen Talentify job listings as well. I think they are a recruiting firm so it's expected there would constantly be job openings. However I haven't applied to any of their postings because I prefer to just apply to the actual company's posting.

I get it! The job market seems to be pretty rough right now. It is hard to find anything that is a reasonable commute or remote. I hope you find something soon!
