God showed us His mercy by not giving us what we deserve. His grace by giving us what we dont deserve. Only through shed blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

Question but first see history of 'pledge of allegiance' at Wikipedia or wherever. 1954 version is when added "one nation under God" so why and who advocated for this change? Was there ever a time when 'God' said in the Bible anything about a nation other than Israel as being of His concern specifically? Maybe, Assyria under Cyrus is possible but temporary. See 1Cor. 11:29 "....not discerning the body....." and at 1Cor. 12:27 "Now you are the body.....". The " you" spoken of likely indicates that "the body" is all believers in whatever country they reside. There was an ad where Billy Graham 'equates/conflates' the 'American dream' with the 'gospel' but this likely is not a proper comparison. The 'gospel' focuses on the 'kingdom of heaven' while the 'American dream' is 'worldly' focused or likely 'worldly' focused as people look to America to help 'free' them from 'tyranny/oppression' much like the NT seems to indicate many followers of Jesus thought of him in their time. Some exceptions may have been the three women who anointed Jesus at Bethany. See Mt. 26, Lk. 7 and Jn. 12

Of course I agree with you. There is something about the insight and depth of his preaching that comforts and transforms. He would have wanted all glory to go to his Lord!

27:33 - 27:41 ".....If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1Jn 2:15 KJV Spurgeon here quotes but as he often does, he does not state so. From my limited observations of 'Christian' groups thus far, finds that Amish, Hutterites, some Mennonites and possibly some Coptic try in earnest to separate from the world. Some it seems by choice and some possibly by circumstances. A RC neighbor said to me that to live by the Bible she thinks would require abandoning all and living in the woods. I also heard a similar sentiment expressed at a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous.

At about 39'01" came a desire to look up Adam Smith's, 'Wealth of Nations', which 'coincidentally' was published in the 'fateful' year 1776! Maybe it is this work which speaks of 'An or The Invisible Hand' that guides the economic progress of a nation. Wikipedia's 'Modern Evaluation' subheading of the article for 'Wealth of Nations' indicates the 20th century economist Mark Blaug's observation and likely applauds those who argued in favor of Smith's advice to pursue the advances of 'enlightened' self interest. Question; Is it Biblical to pursue self interest? Or is it more likely the Bible recommends if not commands we pursue God's interests at best and possibly in so doing to pursue cooperation in this respect?

This sermon seems more for preachers and Spurgeon is criticizing their conduct. Paul's letters to Timothy seem to be full of instructions for preachers. Job was a 'preacher' of sorts and I found the Book of Job intriguing but don't see any connection with the way I lived and Job. Job, today is represented proverbially with the saying, 'the patience of Job', but this may possibly be a misunderstanding of the actual significance of this book.
