Here’s that Job Vacancies interview with @adzuna ‘s James Never I referred to on 5 Fact Friday showing vacancies down 50% in marketing, advertising and construction. It was on @BBCr4today on Monday 27 May but wasn’t reported anywhere else I could find.

Keeping in line with the train of finances, my favourite Organic Tortilla chips (not had them in ages) 18 months ago increased to £1.35 from £1. Last Monday I noticed they increased from £1.35 to £1.65. Then yesterday a mere 6 days later then went from £1.65 to £1.95, wtaf, a small bag of corn has doubled. I am NOT paying that price. Surely the inflation figures are being fiddled!? Yes, I know there are different components, but food is the most important, right, we all have to eat. A good friend who eats very differently from me is also regularly reporting price hikes on his food stuffs.

That's very interesting, I have noticed a slowing in grocery inflation starting around 9 months ago and in the last month or so, a return of discounting. I went into my local Sainsbury's (Forrest Hill) about 2 weeks ago and it seemed like half the store was on sale. Some prices were cheaper than 2019.

@@craptacular8282 Hmmmmm. And your experience is very interesting too. My good friend who I alluded to in my original comment eats non organic food and I organic only, but we both have our small list of regular foods as we both have many intolerances thus diets are frustratingly restricted. And on both sides of the coin from Organic to non Organic to me shopping online outside of the usual mainstream supermarkets and he an ASDA lad as said we are both seeing constant increases, so no slowing down here I am afraid. South London here too, for now.

I feel that "Branded" goods have had their prices manipulated as they know people will still buy them. "Heinz" being one of the worst. Makes you wonder who has a hand in doing this? Money changing hands somewhere surely. I did notice both Farmfoods and Heron are getting a fair bit of the unsold and short dated stock now. Lots of the £3+ ketchup type sauces for around 50p. Crazy times but certainly some serious greed amongst it.

Back in 2016, a box of 15 eggs you can get for £1. Now, these are £3

Many vacancies are receiving hundreds of applications per job, especially in tech. Adzuna should know this...

This is a very important factor in all this. Jobs down 19% but applications up substantially. Would love to know the figures on this stat as it highlights the distress which is being cloaked

I live in South London, my local station is busier now than pre-covid in the mornings. I think what we are seeing as WFH comes to an end and the job markets tightening, people are flooding into London looking for work. The rest of the country will see price falls, as jobs & WFH fall away but London will see a steady house price hold and price increase, which will skew the national statistics.

Certainly looks like a sectoral recession, and possibly a leading indicator to a fall back into recession for the whole economy.

During economic downturns buying a homes is often used as a hedge against inflation and to protect from the declining purchasing power of currency held in a bank!

There are plenty of jobs (especially in London) but the Brits are refusing the work. I employ many staff and the lack of skilled and motivated workers is appalling. Enough of the blame game, the Brits should stop yapping and get to work!

My boss has decided to avoid, where possible taking on under 30's due to poor work ethic, sickness days and constant mobile phone checking. Not perfect but finding older workers in general are more reliable and less likely to check their phone constantly. You would be amazed at what some people think they are worth (ie £15+ an hour) even though they don't have a job or experience. Just have a nonsense degree in tiddlywinks or similar and think the world owes them a living!
