Ok. I’m going to go full essay thesis style. The first time I watched this film, I watched purely from an entertainment view but watching again brought a more comprehensive capture of the film and I’ve not felt much compulsion like tonight to document my views on the film. First, big up to Ronke Oshodi whose portrayal of a Yoruba Christian mother was beautifully accurate in its subtlety and totally devoid of the contrived gimmicky caricature of such a mother in the industry. She beautifully showed the shadows and hues of a woman who struggles between her innate Place as protector of her children and being respectful of their person as adults. It was beautiful to watch. The subject matter addresses the age old struggle of how far is too far in obeying God for the person of faith. The questions surrounding the “optical ethics” of God’s lessons and interference with humanity. And it is beautifully done. One of the things I find striking in the film is the deliberate language patterns used through which one can deduce the state of mind of the characters; “she’s not ours!” at every event section in the film. Also the pacing is one of the better ones I’ve seen even in recent years, almost 10 years after this film was in theatres. It was a joy to see that every second of screen time was important, it truly was a joy to watch. In these modern times of emotional parity, the discourse of “must a Christian suffer devastating situations to learn lessons” arise again, well stoked with the fire of attempted emotional blackmail on astral plains😂 I know I would love to listen in to such discourse. If I had just one quibble, it would be that the lighting director created a beautiful palette of light, however it felt sometimes that these opportunities weren’t being utilised effectively. All in all, this film is a classic that deserves a viewing, such that its themes remain woven in the fabric of life’s lining.

Would also really like to commend the lead actors. I've seen Blossom in Trade and Loving Amanda (a Christian movie as well). And I hope he gets all the recognition he deserves cos' he's a phenomenal actor. Love the transition from wigs to natural hair after crisis.
