How to use a Bead Spinner

Learn how to use a tool that will not only speed up your french beading but help keep your patience in tact too!
Spin inches of seed beads onto your wire in seconds...no eye strain with the teeny tiny beads!
I have used 0.4mm and 0.6mm wire together with Size 11/0 seed beads. It can take a little while to get the technique and angle of the wire/needle right but your perseverance will pay dividends.

Brilliant! I've been looking into bead spinners and saw a lot of people frustrated with the learning curve and saying they break a lot of the curved needles that come with the kits while they're still learning. I think I'll use some of my extra jewelry wire like you demonstrated here while I'm figuring out the technique and then switch to the needles once I know what I'm doing.

I'm demonstrating how to spin the beads directly onto wire in this tutorial. It's to be used with a technique called french beading which is used to create beaded, floral displays - I don't actually use this technique for stringing beads in order to make a necklace. If I was demonstrating for that purpose, for example bead crochet, I'd use the needle that comes with the bead spinner and I'd be spinning onto a thread rather than a wire. Hope that clears up the confusion...x

If you wanted your beads on a regular thread, you would use the spinner the same way, but use the needle that comes with it and you will have just popped your ordinary thread through the eye of the needle before hand....x

I’m a little confused. Because the jewelry I makes is with either a plastic string or wire string so I’m confusing how you would get beads on something like that? Or does this only work for a wire?

Hi Tammie - no it doesn't only work with wire but as I mentioned that's what I use it for, when I'm making french beaded flowers - so that is what I was demonstrating. Most of them do come with a needle - check the box before you buy - and you'll be able to thread your chosen beading thread onto that before wildly spinning and stringing your beads! ;-) x

Hi Shannon... welcome to my little beadie world and thank you for your lovely feedback! With regards a bead spinner... size isn’t really important, but I would go for a manually operated one rather than a battery operated one. So one that you have to twizzle, rather than one where you just push a button. This is do you have some control over speed when spinning. Mine are all wooden and I use 2 different sizes. Going for a slightly smaller one will mean you don’t need to add a number of tubes of beads to it to get it working properly... it should work easily with just one tube of beads. The bigger the spinner... the more beads you’ll need to use. Hope that helps with your decision making... good Luck...x

Hi Liberty - I have a few, but the one I use the most is the Beadalon Spin a Bead Junior. They also have the plastic cups that sit inside the spinner enabling change of colour very easily... I use the spinner for French Beading most of the time - so I spin directly onto 0.6mm or 0.4mm wire. Hope that helps! xx

Hi Havilah...a 10mm bead would be too big for a bead spinner. Bead spinners are used for seed beads (typically beads sized 1-3mm) when french beading or doing bead crochet.

Okay... of spinning for a necklace or bracelet I would I use something like a nymo thread and the needle that comes with the spinner. Your thread will easily go through the eye of the supplied needle. Spinning onto wire will be too rigid. I spin onto wire to make French beaded flowers which need the strength of the wire to stand proud. Sorry for misunderstanding your original question...x

I am trying to repair a vintage Dior glass bead necklace where the large faceted beads are threaded on black wire, each bead being individually wired, I have had to remove some beads because they were so badly damaged. The beads have been threaded with a single thread of wire, a loop made & then the wire is wrapped around the wire beneath the loop 2 or 3 times making a tight coil, clearly each bead was looped to the previous bead during construction, but I just can't wrap the wire around tightly enough, not helped by the wire having a black coating, can you give any advice?

It's so difficult to give you an answer without seeing what you're talking about. When I'm wrapping wire loops, I sometimes feel like my fingers are a) in the way and b) not strong enough to pull the wire tight. In this case I use a pair of pliers as an extension of my fingers - I can then get a better grip on the wire, making my wrapped loops much tighter and neater....x

The bead spinner is not a tool to use with elastic…it comes with a needle that you can use to spin beads into thread or you can make a needle with wire and spin directly onto wire if you’re going to be doing french Beading…x

If you use a spinning needle (a large hooked needle) in place of the wire you can spin beads onto elastic the same way you would with thread. Just make sure the knot is small enough to allow the beads to pass through. The hooked needle catches the beads like you see in this video, but then instead of pushing them down the wire, you would simply push the beads over the eye of the needle and onto the elastic or thread

You probably want at least one 24g tube of seed beads. Of course you get different sized spinners too. If it’s too empty spinning becomes more difficult…x

Brilliant idea I was trying to enter my nylon wire in the needle and I couldn’t do it 😭 so I was thinking of what to do . I would prefer to make my beads on wire nylon beads . Because I prefer my necklace to be soft and to move nice on my chest and not to be stiff. I think I’m gonna use like 20-30 beads and cut the wire and connect it to others . 🧐

Uuuummmm... I think I was probably talking about 0.6mm and 0.4mm wire. A 0.6mm wire is between a 22 and 23 gauge wire and the 0.4mm wire is a 26 gauge wire. Hope that helps? x
