A fun thing I thought about with their harvesters, it rolls on treds but has legs that seem to be useless. Why give a tank the ability to walk? Walk....without rhythm...the worm in the first movie devoured the harveser whole, that machine had only treds. The worm may always come but those false legs probably cause small secondary vibration waves that confuse the worms. They will come, but much much later.

Also I think it disturbed him that was a woman. It's not mentioned much in the movies but the fact that Fremen women were just as deadly and fanatical as the men (meaning they have twice the amount of soldiers available) seriously bothered the Harkonnen and Sardaukar. For a brutal warlord like Rabban to nearly be killed by a woman really took his ego down a notch. In the book when Sietch Tabr is destroyed they mention that even old women and children were capable of killing at least one or two soldiers, even Sardaukar sometimes.

And this is why Fremen are so terrifying. Toughened by condition worst than any planet, and they're all VERY unafraid to die. That last scene showed it perfectly: that one female Fremen jumped into the Ornithopter with no plan of returning back alive. She just wants to kill one more Harkonnen in Muadib's name. Religious zeal, that's one factor. Second factor, they have learned to think VERY long term. They want to turn Arrakis to a green world... it'll take thousands and thousands of years, but they don't care. They've all become used to the idea that they will not live to see the fruits of their labor, but as long as they put in one little effort today, the know that future generation will reap the benefit. In her mindset, the mindset of a Fedaykin, one less harkonnen die today means one less Harkonnen that will hurt her comrades in the future. If she dies, she dies - besides, by time or by blade, she will die eventually. But she will die content knowing others will fight on in her stead in the future because of what she did today. That sense of warrior's community. That's how terrifying Fremen is, and that was just the woman, and that was just ONE fremen. Imagine a million, tens of millions of them fighting with that kind of mindset.

The start of this scene is so impactful, in my opinion, because they set each scene at Arrakeen up by showing an aerial view. You go into the scene expecting to be taken into Arrakeen, or in this case the Spice Depot, and then your expectation is interrupted by the explosion of the Spice Depot.

It's being accurate to the books largely. Harkonnens were always largely incompetent when it came to actively engaging the Fremen. It was hard enough for them on Arrakis before Paul Atreides was there to lead them.
@tacitus63845 ай бұрын
@@_ArsNova Sure, I'm not disputing that, it is accurate to the book. If anything the movie buffed them by giving them a 'win' by attacking an unattended mountain. I just think it's a bit tensionless. However, that is the point of the theme of the book, that this serves the narrative of religious fanaticism etc.

This is not a Dune problem per say, but in the year 2024 I would really hope that at least one movie shows armour acting like armour. In every movie I’ve seen blades penetrate armour like it’s paper OR the fighters are so skilled that they make perfect strikes for the uncovered areas without even accidentally striking the armour at some point. I just want a movie where armour gets slashed and actually protects the wearer smh

The Harkonnens command fanatical loyalty through fear and cruelty. Think North Korea. That and, as another has said already, space travel is severely limited. Only the Spacing Guild can fly through the universe (it's the whole reason Spice is so important, since they need it to find safe paths), and Guild price rates are extortionate. Some do manage to leave though. In fact, though he was a slave rather than a soldier, Gurney Halleck was born on Geidi Prime (the Harkonnen homeworld). He went on to become one of the finest Atreides warriors, one of the finest in the entire Imperium.

I will forever love and appreciate how Denis Villeneuve used the action to help tell the story. I hadn't read the books before watching these movies, and I never understood why House Atreides considered the Fremen to be such an asset. Sure, Duncan said that "they fight like demons" but they still couldn't match up to the Sardaukar and struggled against House Harkonnen. But we got to see their full power on display in Part 2. With adequate time to plan, they're the perfect guerilla assassin fighting force. There's a full planet of them, and their leader can see the future and knows his enemies like the back of his hand. To anyone who hasn't read the book, it suddenly becomes clear how they were able to take over the known Universe in a matter of years.

I love how in the beginning of the film the Harkonnen are highly confident in their hunt for the Fremen "rats." At this point in the film, they are terrified as they head into what they perceive will be a slaughter. You can also clearly see the utter dread in Rabban's face as he is desperate for any type of victory over the Fremen to appease his uncle who has so clearly showed his displeasure for his management of spice production.
