As an introvert with social anxiety I've always wondered what would be the best kind of job for me. I've put together a list of a few which would be suitable. Do you have any ideas for other jobs that would suit us introverts?

I've definitely think it would be easier to be an animal or if people lived in a way where we didn't need money. I am kinda an introvert but kinda not. I guess it's more social anxiety which is probably caused or at least not helped by the way society is. If people lived in small communities or groups life would probably be so much easier. If we already knew everyone in our groups we would be less anxious. Also it would be easier to help each other.

I worked in jobs where I've had to answer phone calls. And a job where I was STRONGLY encouraged to place at least 100 phone calls per day. It was hard because social interaction is draining for me. I was driven by my desire to do a good job and to be thorough. But it always seemed I was never working fast enough. I couldn't understand the people who could plow through a call and get off the phone so quickly. And then onto the next. I don't think I ever actually made 100 phone calls in a day in that particular job. I heard about it often from my manager.

One thing that’s helped alleviate anxiety is to not seek validation from others by accepting that this is where you are right now and you don’t have to explain it to anyone. That said, talk to a therapist about it because people who don’t struggle with social anxiety or being introverted WILL NOT get it completely.

Thank you! I quite liked the transcriber idea. Can relate to this a lot, I've been looking for a remote job for a while now, but haven't managed to find anything yet and getting a driver's license is far too daunting for me for now. I also find it very frustrating that people don't seem to understand and often react quite negatively to people who wish to work alone. I struggle to convince my family and friends that I actually want a job, they think I'm just lazy and 'choose' to not work when that's far from the truth. Anyway, sorry for the rant, it's nice to know there are other people out there who are struggling with the same issues I am.

Wow. Your message resonates with me. I've been unemployed since the beginning of the pandemic in the U.S.. Prior to that I was a full-time rideshare driver for a few years. Prior to that I worked as a Customer Success Manager for a tech startup. Being a rideshare driver, despite paying the least of any job I've had since high school, was the most peaceful I've felt at work. I netted like less than $20,000 / year as a rideshare driver. And grossed $75,000 / year as a Customer Success Manager. I stopped doing rideshare driving because it seemed unsafe during the pandemic. And our children needed someone to watch them at home, since their schools closed to keep everyone safe. And, honestly, it's not a healthy profession to do full-time. I see the way my extended family and my wife's friends look at me and treat me and it tears me apart. I can feel their judgment. I can feel that "You're lazy because you're not working" vibe. It kills me. Because I've always strived to do quality work. It's just that I've never honored myself by choosing work which suits my introverted nature. I always went with the program and did what I thought other people wanted me to do. No one ever helped me in life honor my nature and find work which suited it. There was just always the feeling of do well in school, go to college, get a corporate job. I can't go backwards in time and coach my teenage self. But I can start now and honor myself and finish my life living it in a way which makes me feel at peace. So I'm trying to figure out what work will suit an introvert like me, so I don't end up on the same path I've visited several times over.

I'm an introvert and for years I've been having a harding working in a team. I prefer to do things on my own, and my way, and all by myself. I've been getting call-outs for not documenting my workload properly. It's not that I'm not doing anything. In fact, I'm doing a lot of things. I just don't like the idea of always reporting tasks. And I also noticed that I always excel when no one is supervising me rather than always waiting for someone's instructions or go-signal. In my current job, I'm working in a team and I suck a lot. You know the feeling of people are thinking that you are so dumb coz you just can't do your job well. But really,.. I just can't do my job well when I'm always waiting for instructions before I could do what I need to do. Leave me alone and you will see how I can go.

I'm still trying to get over my fear of driving (thank you, reckless drivers) so hopefully I'll get into delivery work. Agree. I was recently hired as a prep cook. And even though I don't have the luxury of working completely alone, I see the same 7 people at my job every day which greatly reduces my anxiety issues. Because I've already come to know them all fairly well so I know what to expect on every shift. Which was a massive upgrade compared to working in retail. The cruel karens can't verbally abuse you when you're in the backroom and not out in the open for them to prey on.

I am an introvert with Asperger's, and if I am around too much noise and/or people, I will have physical panic attacks. Right now I am happy doing delivery driving until I can start my own business in the future. Financial security wise, it's hard due to it being slow at times, but I know that I will be okay. Don't give up on whatever socially exhausting job you may be doing until you find a better job. Prioritize your mental health, and if your finances can't catch up to expenses, try to minimize your expenses on stuff you don't need. Freedom and better mental health is what you'll be rewarded.

I would recommend intermittent fasting. It may sound extreme to some, but I've been doing it for 5 years to help keep excess weight off. I have a physically inactive job and have no time for exercise due to long hours and commuting. It takes some getting used to, but completely doable. It teaches you that you don't need anywhere near as much food as you once thought. It can be argued that the human body is well adapted to cycles of fasting, due to early humans not having had access to lots of food like we do now. Do some research on intermittent fasting, there are tons of videos here on YT and lots of info online.

@Kumari_44 Жыл бұрын
@@yearginclarke this guy knows! ✅ intermittent fasting is KING! I do it whenever i’m cutting. Doing 16/8 literally gueantees that you wont overeat. Hell, you cant cos youve only got 8 hours to get the food in. Even on a 1700calorie deficit, thats still alot of healthy food to cram into such a short space of time. It works absolute wonders for losing weight.
@yearginclarke
@yearginclarke Жыл бұрын
@@Kumari_44 Yes I think 16/8 is the best eating pattern to have. I find that regular intermittent fasting naturally makes you have less cravings for food overall. And when you do have days where you eat alot, particularly carbs and junk food, you can really notice just how garbage it makes you feel! Fasting made it much easier for me to FEEL the difference that healthy food makes.

@ErikHaanVincent

What you have IS a real job. All jobs are REAL jobs because they're necessary for the functioning of the business. If there weren't night security workers there would be more thefts, which would raise insurance rates, which would cause the costs to get factored into the price of the goods or services. Or put the business out of business. Pay is typically attached to revenue. So if you do a job which drives revenue you'll be paid well. And there are jobs which drive revenue but which don't require social interaction. Software engineers make VERY good money. I know many people making six figures in this field. And they're people who just work alone with their code most of the time.

What in the world do I do when I discover later in the life the extent of my introvertedness? After 21 years I realized after Covid that I could no longer teach due to burnout. It was due to a constant cycle of overstimulation which resulted in irritability a need to isolate to recharge. After watching the video I’m thinking, what now? After investing time and money to get advanced degrees in order to earn decent money, I’m like “What was the point?” I find that a lot of the jobs for introverts that are listed don’t really pay well and although I need to be able to do the work without mental drain, I also have to be able to handle rent, mortgage, utilities etc…..😢

I have worked as a long distance delivery driver a while, which was quite ok, but the pay was really bad and had to drive very long hours, so wouldn't recommend it for anyone. I worked abroad in a call center for a while (tech role), which wasn't actually so bad. Can't say I really enjoyed my time at McDonald's flipping burgers. I liked the lighthouse idea at first, if one could live on a remote island where there's also some space for animals and gardening! ;) Now in the third country I'm living in, I bought a large forest plot which I spend most of my free time on. In fact, I have a certain amount of industriousness, I only needed to channel it in the appropriate type of work for my personality. Full disclosure.....initially I took meds to be functional. Once I found my niche and my rhythm, I was able to taper off the meds with the help of medical professionals but i would probably be a bit more functional if I had stayed with the meds.....trade offs i guess. I would highly recommend professional help for some people. Don’t let any sort of stigma keep you from being your best. The greatest shift that has occurred in my outlook has been acceptance. I have learned to accept my personality and I have learned to see its virtues.

I have so many meetings every day. Most of the time I say nothing. But this bullshit is sucking the life out of me. So, if you consider such a job, ask "how many meetings do you have in this company?", RUN if they say something like "we are agile and we use scrum", that means = MEETINGS and pair programming. I also tried truck driver for a while. Thats nice, but can be very stressful. Same for delivery guy. I liked being a paperboy when I was a kid. But they pay peanuts. I went and got a degree in Psychology, which is ironic because I quickly found out the thing I already should have known: I absolutely do not want to work with people- the thing I studied. My current job is a overnight mental health technician at a small home-like clinic where we only have 6 patients. Luckily, they are asleep for 90% of the time I am here. The other 10% of the time I just awkwardly make it through and fake it until my shift ends. Essentially it's like being a security guard/janitor/nurse or a counselor occasionally when a patient is having a bad night. Those times when I do have to have f2f time with a patient are managable usually as long as it isn't some kind of game or activity the patients are playing, which I can successfully avoid and only happens when I work different hours. The good part is for that 90% I am here by myself in "a little room". Driving is also nice for overnight jobs because I don't have to interact with cars on the street all that much. An overnight mental health tech position is a good job for anyone like this who has a social studies or social science degree.

Yay self discovery😃And two weeks from now, my bosses are moving the whole department to a new building where we’ll be crammed in closer and with less barriers between each other. 😥Yay saving corporate money. I’ll have gone from only 3-4 people being in the entire workspace to having somebody a few feet beside and in front of me with a 6 ft wall between us to being able to lean over and tap somebody with a 4 foot wall between us (the last foot made of glass). And everybody HAS to chatter from the moment they arrive. You’re offending if you don’t participate. Fantastic😕

As I socially awkward misfit, one thing that I have noticed about myself is that I can do jobs like a bartender or a waiter or something similar like that because most of them require engaging with people you'll never see all the time (unlike in an office)- gives you a lot of room to just pretend smile, fake as it is, and get along with your day instead of playing the same awkward interaction over and over a thousand times in your head... You can be assured that there's a good chance you won't be seeing them all the time, also it actually gives you the right environment to fall and not pay a huge penalty because you can practice your social skills with the next fella and get a little better. (but it actually never gets better permanently)
