Misquoted. FYI - its often incorrectly attributed to H. Ford. It was not. This has gained enormous traction. Again. It was not Ford that originally said this.

If people took this approach then they wouldn't buy a car at all. If the 'job to be done' is to commute to work then there are much better solutions than buying a car.

It is not just one Job. They are "Jobs" to be done. while jobs have different values to each customer. the marketer's job is to target the right customer with the most valuable jobs for them.

Think if this : I walk into a Car Dealership and say : I am looking to make my drive around likeable to me. The Sales person will ask several questions : What kind of a car do you have on mind? Who all in Family? What functionality is important?(fuel economy/ fun/ space etc ) What Car i have now?...these questions support not only the Sales Person, it also supports the Buyer(me)....If i am looking for no hassle, ok with standing, ok with crowd, ok with walking the end mile, may be Public Transport is the Best option for that customer. That too is a right solution to that customer...

How is "Buying a car" the job to be done? Isn't it "commute to work"..?
@markalbarracin20112 жыл бұрын
The job to be done theory is how people hire products to do jobs for them. You hire a car not because of the features of the car, but because there is a job you want done, and the car does the job better than the other alternatives for you

@@KiranVarri I agree with Magnus , the car is the product that is being "hired" to complete the "job" of commuting to work. I look at it as "the Job itself is the problem that the customer has and the Hire is the solution to that problem" what's your thoughts?

"I want to positively influence "climate change" by buying a coal powered car with conflict minerals"
@leostmark2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's how I would understand that phrase too. Positively contributing to climate change would mean buying a car that pollutes the most. A better phrasing of that 'job' would be 'I don't want to positively contribute to climate change', in which case you wouldn't buy a car at all but would some other form of transportation.
@markalbarracin20112 жыл бұрын
it's electric powered car. at least it doesn't contribute as much Pollution than a car that literally uses Refined Oil to start itself.
