Driving from Jo'burg (O.R. Tambo) to Bloemfontein is one of the amazing experiences one can enjoy when it comes to touring SA. The journey takes roughly 4 hours or less, depending on traffic. Johannesburg has the world class freeways that are well maintained and enjoyable to drive on. This is one way to enjoy nature, relaxation and quietness. It's oddly ironic how the western media talks about South Africa as a failing state (and no doubt, South Africa has a LOT of major issues), but then I come across videos like this that showcase modern freeways that are better-designed than in a number of US states or even other fully developed countries. South Africa seems like a country of extreme contrasts.

It is once you leave Gauteng province. Even Gauteng is fine as long as you stay on the freeway. I prefer daytime drive but nighttime drive can be fun if you're good with directions.
