I found your channel, quite honestly, by mistake. And as a non-vet female in my 50’s, you might assume I’d just move on. So. Wrong. Well, I confess, it started playing and I was cooking, so I let it keep going until my hands were clean enough to touch the tablet I was watching from. Thank goodness, that took a few minutes. I was so focused on the video that I almost burned dinner. I’ve binged on your videos several times. The lessons, the motivation, the mindset... it’s life application, all the way. The shared stories are a bit salty, awesome and captivating. So, thank you, sincerely, for your service to this great country. And thank you AGAIN, for continuing to serve in this capacity. I totally agree. I think world war II overall, is a more compelling story with Hitler and Stalin Etc. But the missions in Vietnam just seems so badass. That being said, I wish there were more World War II veterans to hear from.

Finally a SEAL on the Podcast that was in the Congo for Operation Guardian Retrieval... I was there in 96 in Brazzaville, Congo With VMGR-252 (Marine C-130 Squadron out of Cherry Pt). We were on our way to the Congo from Operation Silver Wake (NEO )evacuating Americans from Albania and our embassy. We ran into a SEAL team in Dakar Senegal on our way to the Congo, they had been there for a week or 2 waiting on a ride to the Congo. We took them to Brazzaville, dropped them off and didn't hear from them for a couple weeks. Then one day we were at the pool at the Hotel Sofitel.. Here comes those SEAL's through the lobby of the Hotel out to the pool deck with a couple zodiacs. They put their gear on by the Hotel pool deck and went right down the bank to Congo river and off they went to Kinsasha Zaire... That night we saw tracer fire from Kinsasha Zaire... About 3 days later here they came back across the river, ran the zodiacs up on the bank, Drug them up the hill to the pool and we all had a good time drinking at the bar. There was a Marine FORCE Recon team there as well from the MEU that we brought from Libreville ( They flew off the USS Kearsarge to Libreville, and then our C-130's brought them to Brazzaville). We all drank too much and ended up in the pool! Here is some advice I learned that night........ Don't play Marco Polo with Navy Seals and Recon Marines if you aint ready for it! What a great time....

I met Kirby in Europe when he came over to pick up a desk at J3, one of those old army metal office desk. He grabbed that desk, all 5' 3" of short shit and heaved it over his head, carried it 20' and threw it in a pickup truck like a water melon. Amazing strength. It was a pleasure to work with him.

I stumbled across you by accident and was drawn in by the leadership casts. Now I am seriously hooked and working my way backwards looking for these “old guard” casts. Freaking awesome and amazing. It truly is a masterpiece of engineering. Its modularity was way ahead of its time, my favorite is the belt fed SAW config. Most people had never heard of it until Call Of Duty

In 1963 I was sitting at beach bar 9 in NhaTrang,vn when a guy came out of the water, sat down at my table and ordered a beer. He had a udt insignia around his neck like a necklace. We had a nice conversation and then I left. I never knew if he came from a submarine or had just been swimming. It is a cool memory for me as I had heard about udt people but never met one before or later a seal.

My dad has a similar story as to how he went into The USMC back in 1958. He, and his 3 gang member buddies stole a car, and one of them hit The CHP Officer who pulled them over with a shovel. The judge gave my dad and his buddies the option of the military, or go to jail. My dad chose The Marines, his three buddies didn’t, and all three of them eventually died in prison. I love my pops! I can attest to this..I migrated to this country by myself being a spoiled brat living with mommy..a friend got the SEAL bug in me and I learned and trained for it..unfortunately I had a plan B. However, the philosophy and attitude stayed with me. I became hardened and determined. Today I’m a Doctor. I can say what I learned from these warriors got me to where I am. Now I serve in the NAVY to repay this service in a way.

33:22 minutes in I had to stop this is by far the most riveting guest I’ve ever witnessed on the podcast! This man reminds me of my Great Uncle Bud at Thanksgiving in his 90’s commanded the room because he was that fucking real! Uncle Bud was the star of the show and in his 90’s filmed my wedding of 300 people truly an amazing man! WW2 Pilot Graduated from Texas and was Mayor of Bonham Texas after running Gulf Pumps for several years.

A lil late to the party though Superb vid! One of the greatest BUD’s pics of All-Time is one of Instructor Vince Olivera standing on a BUD’s trainee’s back as he was in the down push-up position cept his chest was flat on the ground, arms outstretched straight out above his shoulders/head with legs outstretched and up as though he was either doing leg flutters or leg lifts or both. Incredible pic that I doubt would fly today, lol Times were different back in the day, lol Thanks again for a great site and vids and thank you for your sacrifice and device and your continuing to give back!! Seafloat was a MATSB supporting Water Borne Guard Posts (WPGPs)with swifts and riverene units and various SEAL teams and UDT teams. Hal 3 Det 1 seawolfs provide air cover. At one time about 20 swiftboats, 1 monitor, 1 Zippo, 1 Heavy Seal Support Craft(HSSC), 1 Medium Seal Support Craft(MSSC), 1 Light Seal Support Craft(LSSC), 2-3 junks, 3 SEAL Platoons, and about 40 USN Navy Seafloat Staff called this home. Imagine sleeping there while grenades are detonating day and night and an attack could happen at any moment. sapper attacks and fire fights were common since the Ca Mau province has historically been a VC stronghold.

kIrby Horrell (great video by the way) describes the legendary BUDS instructor and tobacco chewing Olivera who as I recall was half native American Indian and Italian. I keep hearing his name pop up in various memoirs of former Navy SEALS. All I know is somebody must have a book written on him somewhere or should right now, he's a character worth reading.
