Sir Ranulph Fiennes would be a great guest. Ex SAS, walked unsupported across Antartica, and has led numerous other expeditions. He climbed the N face of the Eiger at 63 & climbed Everest a few years later. He has raised tens of millions for charity. He lost a glove on an Arctic expedition and got frostbite in that hand.. The tops of all his fingers basically died and came off. Back home, he was left with painful bleeding finger ends that refused to heal. Frustrated that doctors were insisting on waiting months to see how much necrotic tissue would heal, he went to his shed and took the raw tips off with a Black and Decker fret saw and then got a surgeon to close the wounds properly so the stumps would finally heal!! 4 mths after coronary bypass surgery in 2003, he ran 7 marathons in seven days on seven continents!

Umm holy cow, there's something about those older generations that u rarely see today! Greatest gen that's ever lived in my opinion, & just salt of the earth kind if people. Who just get along with life, but sounds like an incredibly entertaining guy. So hopefully he still has many, many more years of bad-ass-ery left in him!!! Thanks 4 sharing!

I bought his book after listening to the narrative from Jocko the other day. This is like a fictional adventure with the exception that it really happened! As for this podcast, it would've been interesting to see if I could've qualified for the Seals in my 20's. They are one tough brood along with their UK counterpart. I'm stoked to read Mr. STOTT'S book, which arrives on my birthday.

Important point about the need for vetting NGOs, their sponsors, agenda and record before they work in conflict zones or in areas hit by natural disasters or at borders. Appreciate Dean's talking about his "medicine" journeys. I was a VETS grantee and write about the entire experience in my new non-fiction book, "Traveler Between Worlds". Thanks to Dean and his team for supporting recovery in Israel. More work to be done there.

For any Britons watching: cannabis is available on private prescription (as an unlicensed medicine, hence not available on the NHS generally) since 2018. It is not commonly known, your GP likely won't know about it (nor many police). However there are several private online clinics. There are hoops to jump through, you'll need to have tried at least 2 "normal" kinds of treatment (e.g. antidepressants and CBT) and still not experienced relief. The UK is in fact the worlds largest exporter of medical cannabis - Theresa May's husband rather famously had some investments in a British medical cannabis company. So there is a legal path here, it's just kept quite quiet from the public. Obviously the same laws apply: no driving under the influence (as the only tests for cannabis do not measure the "active" amount in your system, you could fail these even if you had not consumed any cannabis for several days), no using cannabis in public, etc.

I remember being in the library at school in year 8 and some policewoman said cannabis is completely illegal or something but actually at the time by dad was prescribed a cannabis spray for his multiple sclerosis, it was a spray that you put on your tongue.

Of all the now ‘famous’ SAS Who Dares guys now .. have to get Billy Billingham on. Most interesting story, the highest rank and longest service - I think 17years in the SAS. Which is phenomenal. They all look up to Billy. Great storyteller and very funny too. He’s probably the last remaining one who still had a whiff of the ‘old school’ about him.

1. "Zohar" (The book the lady gave him at the airport, and the Israeli operation name) - is an ancient spiritual book on the Torah. 2. Clapping and singing when landing in Israel, specially with El-Al, Israeli flight company, is a tradition for Israelis. Probably enhanced on those days when many of them came back home to help their nation.
