The final message is very powerful. The greatest obstacle in our comfortable lives is barely a single percentile of the horrors and hardships these men had to overcome. Every goal in our lives is miniscule compared to the insurmountable odds they overcame.

US Marine General Oliver Prince Smith ( Berkeley Class of 1916) was a true Hero. During the Korean War. He saved 15000 US Marines. There is a story about him on KZbin. There was pressure to rush North against a bunch of so called chinese laundrymen. Instead he strategically set up the airfields, and set up defenses on the way North. Many think he is the most underrated General in US History. My dad was a Marine in Korea. Thank God General for OP Smith.

My Dad was adopted in 1953. I just found out the reason he was put up was the parents weren’t married yet and both came from very devout Catholic families. They couldn’t get married because the father was in Korea and the mother was stateside and they had let their passions get the better of them on Liberty. Did some research and this man was a Pfc. at the time in the 1st Batallion, 1st Marines and fought at Inchon and Chosin. His MOS was 0311. They got married as soon as got out and had two more kids.

One of my grandfathers served as a marine in Korea, he never talked much about it, just mentioned it was extremely cold, and he saw lots of Chinese pla soldiers used like cannon fodder in wave attacks, and he pissed on and dumped water on heavy machine guns because they were overheated... turns out he was at or near chosen when the Chinese pushed back but we didn't know that til after he died, my grandmother told us he had nightmares that caused him to wake up sweating in the middle of the night... I can see why he didn't want to talk about it... he kept an old ammo box from the machine gun that my dad still has
