Echo, yes the distinction between prior enlisted or not is significant enough to mention. It’s funny you caught it without knowing the culture. It might not be as significant peer to peer. But for the enlisted the respect baseline is definitely higher for leaders that are prior “E Dogs” Jocko downplayed it but I’m sure it’s significantly less of a factor in the teams especially when you’re in that position. But in my experience both in the Army and Air Force, the prior enlisted leaders are significantly more capable, understanding and experienced of what their job really entails. Most of them have significant leadership on the enlisted side. But I agree with jocko, a turd is a turd regardless of where they come up.
