When I first pictured Echo in my head having only listened to the podcast, I imagined a scrawny, pencil-necked man. Little did I know that he was in fact a 250+ pound monster with the voice of an angel haha

Jocko and Echo, as a Coroner and disaster responder of 20 years, I didn't want to look up the letter referenced by Peter Attia, this morning on my run, this podcast was next up. I ran as you read and re-lived the countless times I have told someone their loved one had died. But the Byrnes letter, wow. Thank you for helping us face the dark, so we can enjoy the light. I will use this letter in future trainings as I present to new Coroners and investigators.

I will treasure the day I am in the position to write a letter like that of John Byrnes. No matter where I find myself, no matter the darkness that surrounds me, to have a child I love with a woman I love, who love me... God, that is a beacon of hope that nothing can obscure.

Jocko, once again, is speaking some real wisdom when it comes to learning Jiu Jitsu. A number of years ago, I had the epiphany that a martial arts instructor correcting my poor technique or habits was a good thing. I no longer say "I'm sorry" or get on myself for doing things wrong -- I now respond with "Thank you". When I'm corrected, whether through technical instruction, getting put into a disadvantageous position, or getting straight choked out or arm barred, I say "thanks for the lesson, I'll try to do better next time." They're literally *making me a better fighter* every time they point out my mistakes or take advantage of my weaknesses. Why would I ever be sorry for improving?

Bro...this shit hit real close to home. I narrowly survived a nasty car wreck....a month later my little sister (15 y/o) was killed by an impaired teen driver who hit a semi trailer with her in the back seat. 3/4 people in the car were decapitated...including my little sister. This shit hit real close to home. Men dont cry..I believe that very thoroughly...but thinking about that incident makes me cry like a little bitch. I would trade myself for her any day of the week....and the world would be a better place for it. She was as good as they come...I, simply, am not. I do not deserve to be alive, none of us do...not 1 single person on this planet "deserves" anything...the best we can do is try like hell to earn what we have...but we do not deserve any of it. I'll see you again one day Mikayla, I love you oh so much...I'll fight my way through eternity if I have to, but I WILL see you again. I'm so fucking sorry that I didnt protect you the way I was supposed to. 😭

Tell me more What does C Jung say?
@AngryOscillator3 жыл бұрын
@@stonebud mate, he has like 30 books on the subject, the KZbin comments section is not going to cut it! I'd advise starting with 'The archetypes and the collective unconscious' as a starting point. It's basically to do with the individuation process and how a being can't be complete without passing through The Shadow
@stonebud3 жыл бұрын
@@AngryOscillator could you please give me a cliff notes version? If you feel like the subject is too vast to condense it, I understand. I've read a little bit about the shadow and his musings on the subject.
@AngryOscillator3 жыл бұрын
@@stonebud not really, I have more of a tacit understanding than an academic one. Though, in essence, you need to know yourself fully to express yourself fully. Everyone has a shadow. To express yourself fully, to be a complete, actualized person, you need to know the shadow. I don't know, I've always thought of it as a kind of 'well duh' kind of thing 😊 But then coming to jungle I'd already studied the kabalah, various pagan traditions and generally been steeped in symbology for a long time so most of jung just makes sense to me at almost surface value, makes it hard to explain. Echo would call it that 'curse of knowledge'
@AngryOscillator3 жыл бұрын
Stupid auto correct. I didn't come to jungle (which just got autocorrected to jingle!) but I came to jung. Though I do like a bit of jungle, it's pretty big you know? And fairly wicked
