There were a lot of nice harmless men standing by. Some of them were even filming the rape. Not one of those harmless men helped the girl. The good ,dangerous man would have intervened and not allowed the girl to be raped. Which man would you want around if your girlfriend, wife, sister, mother or grandmother ,was being harmed?

And since no one is totally pure, if you think you're harmless then you'll be blind to your own potential to be harmful and less likely to keep it controlled.

This is progression is from Maps of meaning 2016 Lecture 05 Part 1. That video changed my life and my wife's perspective. We lost a child to a liver transplant in 2014. This lecture taught me that, not only are we built to overcome massive amounts of trauma and change, but that it could be redeemed and purposed for good. For my wife, it taught her that she is now different. Set apart from others. And that that is ok and it is up to her to find how to work that for good.

Yeah, this interview is assuming a lot of myths regarding "enlightenment." A person can be enlightened and still have years of shadow/ego work to go through. The ego can still influence an "enlightened" person, and there are many pitfalls after an initial realization of one's true nature, ones true identity as the all that is, as the emptiness. There is a never ending unfolding, the "work" is never done. Integrating "spirit" and humanity is never ending. They should interview Ekhart Tolle or Adyashanti, or one of so many enlightened teachers that are out there today! Not that JP isn't enlightened, I often think that if he isn't already, he's well on his way. But he doesn't claim it as his wheelhouse. Then again no enlightened teacher would ever say it directly, but they normally speak of how they had an energetic shift and change from personal to universal identity, etc.

The problem is that people live in their own bubble and when you show them truth that breaks their narrative they panic because they realize that they have built a foundation on what they thought they knew. So some serious fear sets in and they panic. Their chosen method is just to attack you (the one bringing in provable truth) since you seem the smaller threat than dealing with the actual situation. It's where society is as a whole, especially after decades of mass media and college brainwashing. Still the information works like a shield, like a crucifix or a garland of garlic to ward a vampire away temporarily.

@@John_Conner222 I don't know, I think people have always been like this. Maybe that's why there is such an advantage in being kind. Organized society, miraculously, makes kindness and altruism an option; sometimes even necessary to be successful against the alternative of being constantly competitive with one another. What I'm discovering though is that understanding actually brings sorrow, and your comment makes me think that you have a lot of revelations about people that end up being disappointing, ultimately. That's just a guess, but only because this so far is my common experience with people. That used to make me resentful towards people in general, but more and more, I'm beginning to cultivate compassion towards everyone along this line. I think the point that Peterson makes about good people needing to be dangerous is that ability to bite taking a back seat to being a good person, which firmly grips the wheel at all times lest goodness loses control and we become uncontrollably dangerous instead. Goodness so far in life, was easy to develop as a child, difficult to maintain as an adult, and very very difficult to get back once I've surrendered it for the sake of being temporarily dangerous. Maybe I'm meandering and this doesn't resonate at all. But the panultimate revelation I've received in facing this world is the simple knowledge that love always knows what to do in every situation. And though people have failed me in the face of that, this has never failed me personally. Much love my man.

The part that was hard for me to understand is why everyone mistook my kindness for weakness, because every fear of every person is a perception of their projections. The amount of cruelty I have received in my lifetime was pretty significant. I'm a fairly beefy guy well over 6'ft stocky with lots of muscle and years of various martial arts experience. I'm like why on earth do people not only think they can poke me like poking a hungry lion with a stick but they get mad when they wake up the beast and I defend myself. I would say a good number of people are still stuck in a traumatic nightmare of high school, lashing out at everything. Love truly does conquer all and it definitely conquers fear but you must be grounded and resilient yourself or otherwise be consumed in the process.

I’ve wondered that myself. If we have monks who literally dedicate their entire lives to attaining enlightenment, how come we don’t hear about it more? If anyone would get there it would be them. But maybe it’s actually really hard then. But that also means we normal people have no hope of getting there. But I feel the more I learn about stoicism and practice it, enlightenment is just our best self. We can’t be that all the time, but we certainly can increase it more. Thanks Jocko!

It’s ok to do good things for people. But you have to be aware of how much it is reciprocated. It doesn’t mean don’t do things for people that don’t do things for you. It means be aware of who is appreciative and give back vs those that just take. Just focus on yourself to a near selfish point. What i mean is focus on your career, improve or develop meaningful relationships along this self work journey. If you are single that’s actually perfect for self improvement as a guy. Women are great but shouldn’t be a priority over yourself. Still approach and talk to them though. Remember that if you approach 1 random woman a month for 3 years, you would have approached more women than over 80% of guys to in their lifetime. Men reach their peak usually around 40 when it comes to attention from women because those men are established and show traits of a leader they learned from working and learning. You aren’t born with value, but you are born with nearly unlimited potential. You have to work for it now to get it later. Stay strong and i hope i helped somehow. Side note exercise, you will literally stand above the majority of people if you are in above average shape. All if this builds competence which builds confidence and that makes you the most attractive you can be naturally. Adversity builds character.

After all the true heros you've interviewed.. all discussing the events of their military career and true, true heros.. have you ever thought about discussing what causes these people to be put in a situation where their character shows? I hear so much about how they were "fighting for our freedom".. do you truly deep down believe that? Not In any way taking anything from either your service or the service of any armed forces member/vet. I have huge respect for all of you. Mr. Peterson I think that the very very dangerous side of a good man is in fact some evil that a lot of us try to balance with the good. It's interesting to wonder if evil is still evil in the hands of a good man with a good cause. Maybe it doesn't matter as long as we get the right job done. Any thoughts?

While it was a good snippet it didn't give no answer to why People are not enlightened. Rather it was an inspiration to incorporate your dark side in order to grow. But to become enlightened you need to transcend the concept of both, good and evil. I think the real answer might be this: The route to enlightenment is simply fucking difficult and takes your entire lifetime while challenging you to do the opposite of what society upholds as valuable.
