I wanted to see how well the new would fit, and adjust as necessary. I had a new set of Golden Legion hinges. Total junk.

It is so frustrating when you have new parts in your stash, and find out they are worse that worthless, because you wasted your time trying to get them to work. The video wasn't a total bust, though, Barry, as you did show us how to install springs, and provided tips on adjusting the hood hinges, so it's all good.

Barry try this I do it all the time when I alone . Cut off the head of 2 bolts then slot the tops to fit a screwdriver on it. Make sure they are longer 2" . Then install them on the hood stager them then install your hood. Works for me! 👍 I have the same studs for the last 35 years !

I use an old v-belt to install the springs. Has a little bit better grip than a well-used, polished and oily wrench.

Great video! I had a set of Golden Legion hinges that were too tight to move. Ordered a set of "premium" hinges and received the same ones with a different part number on the box. Ended up calling Dynacorn and got a set of hinges that work fantastic.

I had trouble with some hood hinges I purchased from wccc but was my fault... Grabbed wrong bolts where washer was smooth. So once we would adjust it, it would move. Had to use the bolts with a little teeth on the washer... I use an old canvas belt to hook onto the spring, pull and set into hodd hinge... Was scared of palms sweating and letting go of huge wrench. Lol

My favorite part of your videos is the reality that sometimes things will go wrong. Some parts fit, some not so well and some not at all. As I watch you pave the way, usually more that once, you have saved me hours of wasted time or at least prepared me to expect a problem. When I used to hit a snag a part of me that thought I must be doing something wrong , but when I see you wrestle with similar issues I know we are all in this together. Keep blazing the trail Barry, we are right behind you .

Thanks for all the great videos, they are very informative, actually my GO TO source as I start tearing down a 70 cougar with a LOT of front end rot. Each time it gets disheartening and frustrating, I see it can be done with enough focus and patience, and I'm motivated again. Most recently I saw old videos of 70 mustang cowl replacement, can't find more, but the Jade 68 is very similar for good reference. Keep up the awesome videos of your work.

Great job Barry. Something I do when installing new or stiff hinges is I take a 6 foot long (or about) 2x4 and drill holes in it for bolts and mount it to the hinge and kinda work the hinge up and down with the 2x4. Works very well and I haven't bent a hood yet.

NPDlink. The $50 a piece hinges not the $33 ones. The more expensive versions for 64-70 are thicker steel than the factory ones. I wasn't too worried on the 66 as it has a plastic hood which is much lighter than the factory one but it did require a little break in but nowhere near as tight as yours are.

So what's your fix for "a little bit" I find it hilarious you catch yourself on that 😊 When I put the hood on my 65 it was always high on both sides. Ended up putting the springs on and lifting the hood as far as possible and that allowed me to tilt and drop the mounting points a little bit 🤣 to get it to fit flush in the back to the cowl and fenders the was able to open the hood a little bit and loosen the 4 bolts on the hood mounts and move it side to side and back a smidge for a much better fit. Where's the vert hiding? Paint booth or did you send it back ?

If the hood is low and the hinges are as high as they get, why not just shim between the hood and the hinge. Obviously the hood is made different from the original.
@JoDaddysGarage

Wow. Those the worst old school hinges I have ever seen! Too tight and either the wrong rivet or the holes are too big, or both. With such a flat hood, it would just buckle & bent. Tech tip I use. To enlarge a hole use on the hinges or hood side of the hinge, I take a cordless 1/2” drill, chuck a large rat-tail file, insert into hole, but use a 6” pipe and a welding glove. The pipe can be copper, conduit, iron gas or water pipe. Rotate the drill motor clock-wise & counted clockwise to steer the file and create the slot you need. Don’t forget a little in and out action, just make sure your not going to hit something behind...you don’t want hit. Fast, clean and very controllable. Push on the pipe to hog out material just allowing the drill motor to float & move. Just saying, as we all run into this issue. Besides, that’s what flat washer are for, to cover the hole and spread the load. Tough to watch! But no one around?
