Lots of good information. I think I know why my hood doesn't fit as it should. Thanks for your details in explaining your process of the Slither build. 👍☝☝☝☝

Man that hole punch works so well. A drill bit not only gets dull but distorts the metal with the pressure applied as well the rough edge as it burst through. Have to give you credit for keeping as much of the original firewall as possible. It is the right way to do it but so much extra work than simply replacing the whole thing. After my 68 I wish I had done the same in a few places as the new parts are so "dull" in other words are not as sharp and crisp as OEM. As always love the work and great video

Okay... so now you got me excited to see the next upload on the rollbar... Kudos to Mustang Saphir (sp?) for their excellent and appropriate response after learning about room for improvement possible with their product. (My Dad always said that the largest room in the world is the room for improvement). So... anyway... I love the work you are doing. Thanks for sharing this project with us.

Careful Barry, I see all those hot metal grindings bouncing off the lens. I ruined a camera doing that... Nice work, you make it look so easy to get a smooth butt weld.

Barry, in regards to the process in which you cut the firewall in half and if one was to do this job with the front frame rails on... Do you think with the one piece now separated into two, that then the lower half would be able to slip by the front frame rails and under the floor pan in its proper place? Then rewelding it back together to the upper portion once it's in the car as you have done here. Thx

Hi Barry, I’m just about where you are with respect to floors and firewall welding. Why not lap weld? I’m getting feed back from multiple sources and just want your input (reasons) . Strength, ease,undercoated. Thanks for your reply.

Nothing wrong with lap welding. It’s very strong. We’re trying to make it look more like factory.

Barry, it looks great, 1 issue though.... Do you know what hot grinding dust does to car glass??? Ask me how I know ... Please cover the glass on the other project cars unless you plan on buying all new glass ....😕

At this point the only glass is in the Studebaker.

I know you talked about what you are going to do with the torque boxes in the past, but I don't remember. Are you going to install them behind the frame rails or modify them to fit over them?
@JoDaddysGarage

Why salvage the upper firewall panel? If the car was mostly original metal I could see. But, the amount of new metal at this point it just seems like a whole lot of extra work.
@JoDaddysGarage
@JoDaddysGarage Жыл бұрын
There are differences between the two. It also fits better than the Dynacorn.

do admire your work ,but I dont see the point in retaining half of the original firewall , given that there is already a huge amount of new metal going into the project , can't wait to see u cut loose on your MACH1 ,it Wille be one hell of a new project , regards stay well
