They need to make an extended cut of the Little Mermaid. I don’t know if Pat Carroll is still alive to do the singing voice for Ursula for any new scenes, but I know that Jodi Benson, Samuel Wright and Jim Cummings are still very much able to do their respective characters. This needs to happen.

Yeah, I just found out about that not too long ago, so someone else might have to voice Sebastian. Fortunately, I know how to incorporate the song into picture similar to how “Beauty and the Beast” did it with “Human Again”, and “The Lion King” with “Morning Report” (despite being unnecessary). After Ursula’s evil laugh while turning into Vanessa, “If Only” starts playing immediately. And while Ariel can’t sing due to her trading her voice to become human, Ariel can still sing from her thoughts. Meanwhile, Eric, Sebastian, and King Triton sing on-screen from their points of view. For Eric, he gazes at the moon and stars about if Ariel really was the girl that saved him, and if it really was her voice. For King Triton, he regrets destroying the grotto and how he treated Ariel and wishes she would come back so he can apologize. For Sebastian, I don’t remember. But yeah. And then, once the song is over, we fade to Eric playing his flute by the sea.

I see people commenting on here about why Jodi laughed, but honestly I never understood when I saw TLM on Broadway back in 2009 why they had Ariel lamenting in a song, when that girl is fully convinced it's all going to work out until she sees Vanessa (I know Vanessa isn't in the musical, but my point is Ariel is inherently positive. It takes a lot to make that girl stop being optimistic, and I just feel that's how Jodi performed it).

It could still work in a similar fashion to how "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" got extended editions. Those films had a song that was scrapped from their original productions, but was later used in their Broadway counterparts. While "If Only" was a new original song written for the Broadway production.
