It's so cute that her dad is watching Killing Eve again and again. Villanelle is one of these characters which instantly gained a cult following. And for good reasons: she is an uncompromisingly strong, bad-ass assassin who breaks every imaginable boundary and feels no remorse for doing what she does. And her batshit insane chemistry with Eve is just great. That show is a gift to the world.

Jodie made the show with her talent as an actress. I was shocked when I heard her speak in her natural voice, I was so accustomed to her character's accents. She really pulled it off and then some... Sandra Oh was the perfect fit for her character, can't imanage any other actress in that part. Great show, wish it hadn't ended!

Some of us Brits say 'em' or 'erm' when thinking of a reply in the same way some Americans say 'um'. Just as in the US it has the exact same upside and downside over here - if used when someone asks contemplative questions such as an actor being interviewed then it's seen as being thoughtful, if used by a teenager who has just been asked their name then it's a sign that someone is an idiot. Oddly enough we both use the same thing if we want to correct a person, a Brit will say "Errrr.. I think you'll find you're wrong" while an American might say "Umm.. that's bullshit!"

@7:30 When Jodie references the hand licking moment in series one, I think part of the reason it had such a significant impact is that it was disarming. It's in those moments of silliness that it pulls you out of seeing her character Villanelle in a way that is threatening. There's a brilliance in the mix of playfulness and then the almost light switch immediate 180 to another emotion. Jodie made this character. I cannot imagine another actor having the depth, range and unique beauty to pull of the character in the way that she has.

19:30 and her parents definitely taught her many good traits like doing her job fully and not half-heartedly and they support her 100% and at 20:32 when she said that she realized the responsibility of being a lead in the show and not just "doing your job" and the morale and how she treats the crew and punctuality. 21:50 When she said she values and cares what the crew think. Even the editing and the music she talks about it. Damn I admire her so much. No wonder this show is slowly getting its recognition because when good people, good storyline and good relationship with the people you're working with comes together, a success definitely awaits.

Wow, long interview! But Jodie is fun and likeable. It is great to hear how she speaks after only seeing her speak as Villanelle. Not only does she do all the accents well, she speaks in a lower voice. I'm very impressed. Does anyone else think Villanelle is the most interesting part of the show? I always want to see more of her and less of Eve, who I find annoying in her constant secrets from her husband and Carolyn and her team, and also how easily she flies into hysterics. Do you think wearing tight leather clothes which barely cover your body and a big amount of make up is a masculine thing? What do you think is feminine? And Villanelle is not feminine. Sure, she sometimes is, but it isn't one of het characteristics at all. She wasn't feminine when she was chasing Frank. She wasn't feminine when killing that dude in the office. She wasn't at diner with Eve. She has so many personalities and she rocks them all.

Years ago I lived for a year close to Liverpool in a shared house and one of my roomates was a hardcore scouser and compared to him Jodie speaks almost queen's english. At the time it was so difficult to understand anything he said, even basic things at first. The interviewer is trying, one must admit, but still...there is so much more to be said about this show, beside the fact that it is a show about the "killer with a style". Vilanelle is a dark, diabolic figure with her troubled heavy background, apparently coming from some horrible and cruel Russian context as an origin...She is not a girly, puffy lady who polishes her nails and than kills...she is a real Russian-trained dangerous combat operator...she has so many military and combat skills...And her sexuality is clearly established and visible since the first moment of the show...She apparently loves women and she is ready to kill and be killed for that. There are a lot of topics to discuss, and somehow the interview was going mostly just around "what is going to happen next", "what is your favorite outfit", etc. It would be great to ask Jodie what her role models in playing the role of a Russian villain were, where she has got the inspiration to play someone so violent, how did she manage to speak and move in such a terrifying ways, how the hell she has produced such a negative character so convincingly, etc. Without talking about this, its a bit dry.

Great interview! Really interesting to learn a bit more about what goes into the show. I think Jodie, Sandra, Fiona & Kim were absolutely great but so much extra kudos for Phoebe, her writing is amazing 👏👏 how many writers could make you fall in love with a psychopathic killer?

0:51 "Flamboyant" is probably one of the most appropriate words to describe Villanelle. Also, Jodie must have an insane wardrobe for this character! Yet she rocks all of her looks. All of them.

Rose Hi Rose! just curious, was Jodie holding back her accent here in this interview? Because i understood like 95% of what she said. There are some older interviews (pre-Killing Eve) where I understood her less.

So glad that Jodie agreed with the interviewer saying Villainelle is feminine. It's one thing I love about her. Usually they make female assassins masculine, but Villainelle is feminine and girly.
@csmith5420
@csmith5420 4 жыл бұрын
What masculine female assassins are you referring to? In my opinion, female assassins are usually feminine and use that to get to their targets, or are written as sleeping with a target and then killing them. I was very glad we don’t see that on KE. Villanelle is very sexual, but in her personal life. Her business life is just that, business.

NYC & BUILD for this. A Yank transplanted in the deep South way too many years ago, it's just so great to be able to watch this show in New York! I miss taking the bus to Port Authority from CT and catching Bway matinees. Just a taste of The City is a treat! Cool to find the program beginning with the so-well-written-and-acted show Killing Eve.
