Hey adrian love your videos . This is jd the guy that met you at matt’s House. Keep the videos coming they are great! After having tried the super jet I might get one because they are so easy to play and sound bright which I like. I’ve had the t45 jumbo which is great but I really like the sound of the super jet a little better. But you sound ridiculously good on both as usual!

You have the exact sound I'm striving for...I play van doren t95 metal and hard rubber mpcs, I have found the green box van doren reeds to work best so far....I play a Yamaha 62 tenor and a 1958 Martin Indiana tenor....many have told me they really like my Martin sound...so I am working on both saxes, experimenting with darker and brighter sounding mouthpieces...it might take awhile but I'm having fun with the various results...excellent videos as always..thanks :-)...c# or Bb!

Thank you for that comparison. Although I have been playing for many years I did not concentrate on playing in the altissimo range so when I got the Jody Jazz Jet 7 hard rubber mouthpiece I just assumed that it was my fault not being able to play in the high range. I am having trouble playing high G but I could play it on my Berg Larson 100 over 1 M. I'm thinking about getting the Vandoren T7. Also sometimes I listen to your reviews just to hear you play. You have some nice chops. Keep up the good work .

I just picked up a Berg Larsen 100/0 but the ligature is terrible so I have to wait for my new ligature to arrive. That vid is coming soon

I have both a regular Jet 7 and Superjet 7 for my alto. I loved the Superjet, but the regular Jet is terrible for altissimo. The Superjet 7 performs way better in comparison. JodyJazz does better with metal in my opinion. For tenor, I don't think the Superjet performs as well. It's definitely more of an alto/soprano mouthpiece from what I can tell. I use a Theo Wanne Slant Sig 2 on tenor, and I love the flexibility in sound. Great all-rounder with some darkness and edge depending on how you push the sound.

Hello ,I bought this jumbo java a55 but I have some problems.I will appreciate if you help me on this.I had a no name metal mouthpiece and tip opening is like 7-8 .It says 7 on it but it may be more than 7.tip opening is really wide.I was very comfortable with that but when I switched to jumbo java a55,I noticed the air is not going inside properly and sometimes I cannot produce sound.what do you think ?should I use a lip out embochure with vandoren ?do you think tip opening of the vandoren may be small for my lips ?what kind of technique should I use ?i would be appreciated if you help me on this.any tip will make my way.thanks again

I've played the Superjet 7 on my alto and I really like it. Although I don't think the tenor version is as good. I'd probably rather go for an Otto Link or Theo Wanne metal mouthpiece. I currently use a Theo Wanne Slant Sig 2 for my tenor, and I love the flexibility in the sound. It's just dark enough with a little bit of edge.

The thin rails are a different avenue for me but I love how easy this mouthpiece plays.

Great vid! I think you should put the jodyjazz SuperJet up against your Dukoff. I think a comparison between the Jody jazz JET and HR* against vandoren T6 and the mouth cannon would be amazing.

I will consider it. Thank you.

@@Sirvalorsax I just watched this again and the Vandoren definitley wins. That said I have a feeling a bigger tip opening on the SuperJet will be a better play than the 7 you've got here...
@Sirvalorsax5 жыл бұрын
@@PaddieFunkI though about that also but I really like the ease of play with the low end of this piece. I wouldn't want to sacrifice it for the top especially since I can still play 4 octaves with it. I always build my sound from the bottom up.

This is part of an exercise I wrote in order to get me familiar with the full range of the horn about 25 years ago. I used it to get familiar with an unusual key at that time also. I find it to be a great test for full range playing. I'm in the process of doing a video exclusively on it. Thanks for tuning in to my channel

Thanks another very informative insightful vid. I wonder if you have ever tried a Morgan Excalibur ? I would be very interested in your opinion esp altissimo. It’s a roll over tho . Do you think a step baffle is needed for control of the highest alt?
@Sirvalorsax5 жыл бұрын
I am not very familiar with the American Morgan line nor the Morgan Fry pieces out of England.The step baffle in my opinion has nothing to do with altissimo production. Otto Links play altissimo very well with low baffles.

I’m using the T75 which is basically the same thing as T55 but it sounds terrible in upper register for some reason like the tone is so bad but I’ve also only tried it on two cheap ligatures should I invest in a better ligature or should I be concerned something is wrong with the mouthpiece
@Sirvalorsax5 жыл бұрын
I would try a different mouthpiece and also the same T75 but on a different sax just to try to nail down the culprit before I spend any money. It could be the ligatures if they aren't holding the reed properly

Very vey nice sound and also a correct mouthpiece selection. It give a good sound quality in all registers. With a refacing job made by Mendelsax on specific mouthpiece points will improve the communication and of course the sound quality 70 to 80%.

Hey, Sirvalor, the projecting question: might that be due to the different materials? I find that I "feel" the volume louder in my head when using a metal piece, whereas it's more detached with hardrubber
@Sirvalorsax4 жыл бұрын
I've played some Theo Wanne pieces and his hard rubber designs are incredible. I felt like the design of the material can be made very bright with a lot of projection regardless of material. The difference in material contributes to the tone quality, not its brightness. Modern mouthpiece manufacturing is incredible nowadays and I feel like they have cracked the code in design quality

Another great video, very helpful. Also, not sure why anyone would bother spending more than $300 when you can get such good metal Links or V16 which sound better and probably play easier than this JJ or any TW pieces.
@janymikeptz11565 жыл бұрын
How about a comparison of all your ligatures and which ones you prefer on the different mouthpieces. Also, how about neck straps? Especially as a fellow bigger dude, I have trouble finding any that fit comfortably. Thanks!

Hi I ordered the Jody Jazz Super Jet 7* a week ago for my P.Mauriat Sax. Usually i play a Vandoren V16 T7 but i want to give metalmp‘s a try. I‘m no professional sax player btw. but as a live guitarist for years, i think that i can hear sound differences and name them. I think the JJ mp compared to my Vandoren is mich louder and it has a lot more treble and overtones. It is very straight forward and it is not as easy to play as the Vandoren is. Did you recognise the same? I testet it with my Vandoren Jazz 2 Reeds and the legere Elements 2. I also played it with my Fibracell premier Reed but it was very very loud and it had toooo much treble. Usually i use this Reed for my Vandoren because of the bite and loudness. Like your vids. Thanks you!
@Sirvalorsax5 жыл бұрын
I definitely notice the high-end aspect of this piece (Jody Jazz). To me, the Jody Jazz is easier to play but harder to control in the upper register. The Vandoren always stayed more focused but with more resistance. I'm referring to both my HR Vandoren Jumbo Java and my metal T6. I just picked up a T5 large chamber that I'll be reviewing soon!

Is it fair to use a 200 dollar ligature on the vandoren?
@Sirvalorsax6 жыл бұрын
Good question. I used the $140 Carbon Black on the Java and it still comes in $120 cheaper. If I factor in the $70 ligature I had to use on the Superjet because the one it comes with is terrible, it comes to $190 cheaper. Also, I tried (in a different review) the $200 Cryo 4 on the Superjet and it was unsuccessful.

I would love to purchase a jumbo Java but they don’t make in a big enough opening for a high baffle mouthpiece in my opinion. The super jet I played once and returned I was very disappointed and at it was a 10 star. Vandoren needs to wise up and make the jumbo Java i bigger opening
