cool. I was just pointing this out to my kid: the tone has more edge than classical usually does, but it's kind of classical at the same time. I was calling it super contemporary jazz-influenced classical music. (the term is too long obviously....)

I actually find that most mouthpieces will be fairly similar with altissimo resistance no matter the baffle or chamber size but what really changes in mouthpiece is the flexibility in the tip opening for hitting each note at pitch So a smaller tip opening will have less flexibility in pitching down the note due to the really centered feel and facing resistance of closed pieces but with a larger piece you have more flexibility to really accentuate things like sub tone if you use that kind of style where as a closed piece makes sub toning less flexible but tight with more control but not as deep if you’re going for more of a focused center, bright tone I use both of them equally for different things, one is not better than the other but the sound stays the same 👍

Thank You so much for your great video. They are obviously fine saxophones but my preference is in the rich sound of the Selmer. For me Selmer make the best saxophones! God bless you sir. Bill. Uk. 🎷🎷🎷

I found your video to be most interesting. Not from the standpoint of the performance of the mouthpiece but your observation that there seemed to be no consistency between mouthpieces of the one marque. In my over fifty two years of experience in the refurbishing of wood winds I have found this to be true. Not only with the inexpensive brands of mouthpieces but also with the highest priced brands. And not only with mouthpieces but also with saxophones of all brands and price ranges. Why this is so is something for the manufacturers t o research as the findings of such research could possibly result in consistency between units of the same manufactured lot. The point of this note is to request pictures of the mouthpiece featured in you video. For my analysis I would request that at least four orthographic exposures and as many oblique ones as convenient be kindly offered to me for which I most sincerely extend my thanks. The very best to you,Sir.

You should be in cuffs for trying to put these two people on the same level. Bird was an innovator. Stitt was an imitator. Without Bird, Stitt would've imitated someone else.

Valorsax, thank you for another great and useful lesson. I've also been using your video on Mister Magic to get better at that tune, and your thoughts really help. Could you possibly do a tutorial on Bobby Timmons' amazing, soulful "Moanin'?" It's such an amazing tune, with gospel, blues and jazz feels all mixed together, but that B section has all those non-diatonic-looking chords, I don't know how to approach them. I know you could find the key to this great song and pass it along.

Thank you sir! I don’t know what came over me but I all of a sudden desired tenor so I went on and bought (this video made me less afraid of the hard work of the transition so thank you double) But I have an issue with high D I’m getting a flat sound but all of the others tones come out in tune Is there any known technical issues with this in tenor? Before I’ll go to the repair shop

@@Sirvalorsaxthanks for the response The one I could afford is Westwind tornado I’m using a la voz medium reed(just thought that it will be harder to blow in tenor then alto but it feels much more natural even though I’m playing alto nearly 20 years with reed 3 green vandoren)and a mouthpiece of p.mauriat number 6 plastic I like the sound but I do need practice on it to feel comfortable speaking with it

Hey thanks so much for this. What is the easiest altissimo G on a horn with no F# key? My lowly YTS-23 wants to play the altisimo G. :) I am thinking maybe the middle F with side C fingering?

Rico 2.5 Bari on alto is my favourite. I find as a Bari player who started dabbling in alto recently it’s an easier with a big Bari reed giving it a more clean sound.

I bought a few Chinese metal mouthpieces and did a bit of customization. Be very careful when sanding, or you will take too much off. Just barely adjust if you think it needs it. My yibuy plays great without any adjustment. I think it sounds better than my vandoren T75.
