Placing Caps over Screw Holes on Doors

After pushing, shoving, and hammering the tiny little caps into the screw holes on my new exterior doors, I finally figured out how to get them in so much easier. This is my reminder of how to do it. If you invest in new exterior doors you will be so glad. We love them. So worth it. Hopefully this will help you, too.

After messing around with little tiny 'plugs' now for hours I have come to the undeniable realization that these things are the *work of an engineer knocking down $300,000 a year* and laughing himself to sleep every night. Total of 36 of these things, and got 11 in after 3 hours, I've thrown in the towel for today....Once you've got um where just a little tap of a small wood mallet, and they've gone bouncing somewhere into the unknown. BTW, mine are not going in _anything at all like the ones you did_ I would make the argument this takes far more patience than I have.

Wow! I’ve got 4 new doors and been trying to get these in for 2 weeks. I even contacted the door company for help and they didn’t bother responding. Thank you for taking the time to post this video. 💞

I sprayed about a drop of WD40 in the holes, and it helped immensely. I also tapped them in with the handle of a paintbrush cleaning tool. Still wasn't easy, but made it doable.

Also if they seem too big for the hole put the caps in the freezer for bout an hour. They will shrink and easier to install.

just read that putting the plugs in the freezer for a while will shrink them down a bit allowing easier fit - going to try that - this only worked for a couple of my plugs

cut off the head of a drywall screw. Put that in your drill and drill into the cap enough that you can pull it out (or twist) with the drill. You are welcome!

Thank you, you are officially my hero!I'm getting ready to repaint that door and I never did get these little buggers to fit so I gave up and they went into a drawer for 3 years. Just as well, I'm taking the screws out and removing the faux panes on the inside to make it easier to paint that. Instructions on the package were really lacking, it just says insert shallow end and push. Yeah, right, would it be so hard to just have a picture?😂
