If you are a brand new Airman in the Air Force and have never bought a car, this video will cover 10 tips for buying a car, whether it's a new car or used car. When I first joined the Air Force, I had no idea what I was doing when I bought my first car, and it took me many years to figure out the art of buying a car. I will also discuss how to negotiate a car deal, and how to trade in a vehicle. We actually used Shift.com to trade our vehicle in, and it was the decision we made.

I’ve worked at a few dealerships and have sold vehicles. I’ve also bought a few. Entire video hits the nail on the head. Most of F&I offerings are scams. The paint protection is nowhere near a ceramic coating but instead a glorified paint sealant that doesn’t really offer any protection outside of the norm for waxes/sealants. Black paint is so much fun to keep clean 😭

Thank you so much. Maintaining a car can be stressful. Doing the easy stuff can extend the life of the car a long way. i.e oil and fluid changes, brake changes, tires changes, rotations and alignments and tune ups. If the car is breaking constantly and you’re pumping money into the maintenance, you might wanna look at purchasing another reliable car. I hope this helps.

You want to go to a credit union that caters to military (navy federal, service) or get a parent with good credit to be cosigner. My mother had just declared bankruptcy and my uncle cosigned her loan she paid 1 percent more than best rate. When you have a starting out credit score there going to charge you 20 percent interest. My current loan is 3 percent but have had since 2019. Pay extra if you have a high rate or after a year or two with a better credit score refinance. There's alot of online banks you can use as long you have internet. I use service credit union and ill never spend a day in New Hampshire.

Off subject to video what is the process for medical records that you don’t have I just need this one visit from 2012 and there asking for it I wrote a personal statement stating I don’t have it I would that be enough or would I need a letter from the place stating they don’t have.. thanks

You’d wanna get a letter from the doctors office saying they no longer have your records on file. That’ll be the best proof to move further.

I wouldn’t recommend that. Maybe an older version, but a 2022 will be a pretty high car note for an A1C. But it’s your life, I just personally wouldn’t do that with that pay. I hope that helps

They usually want 2 years removed from medication before they consider you for service. However, you need to consult with your doctor before you stop medication. That way your doctors on board with your decision.

I did not say that. Lol. It’s up to the doctors at MEPS to make that decision. If they don’t qualify you, it will then go to your branches surgeon general to clear you. But it’s up to them to decide. All recruiters can do if give you tips on how to get cleared.

I currently am in DEP and about to leave for the airforce in august for Cyber Transport. I have a 2013 Cadillac Escalade that I currently pay 500 a month that’s affordable here at home because I make $22 an hour but of course I won’t make that in the military . Yea man. That’ll be a lot to pay for with brand new airman salary. You can honestly go to shift.com and they can do an online appraisal. They’ll tell you a rough number prior to them coming out. When they came out and actually looked the car over, they offered me $500 less than the online quote. So you can look that way and see if the numbers make sense.

I don't get why you're recommending to finance a $20,000 vehicle from upwards of $400 a month? New airmen make almost nothing. You should be advising them to get a nice $4000 car that will run and drive perfectly. It's just not responsible to ever finance a vehicle that costs that much. They will be caught up in those payments for years.

That was the maximum. Yes it’s extremely high, but I also understand that most airman are gonna try and max out their budget anyways. So I think $400 is the absolute maximum they should go to before they’re in financial worry. Also keep in mind, I told them to factor insurance costs into that $400. So with car payment and insurance, they want to strive to keep the monthly costs under $400. I realized after you said this, it does sound like I’m implying for them to buy a $20,000 vehicle. And that was not my intention. I used $20,000 as an example and $400 monthly as an example, but after rewatching, I can definitely see how it can be interpreted as “you can afford a $20,000 car”. Realistically, they should save up and buy a $2000 vehicle that’s dependable. But most airman are gonna finance their vehicle, so I’m trying to explain the process, and hopefully they can avoid getting ripped off.

@@Jodywithawhy Glad you've cleared this up, I get that a lot of airmen are probably very irresponsible with their money because they are making a decent living, and feels entitled to buying anything. Personally, I would never get a car over $5k in the Air Force, we just don't get payed enough to afford something a lot nicer. Even that, will last you forever and will run phenomenal! It's just the thought of owning a 13 year old car which gets to some people. Which I have do not understand. Those cars are fabulous.

I agree. And I probably should’ve dug deeper into affordability. I was trying not to recommend a price point for anyone, because they are very subjective and case by case. But it seems I could’ve done that involuntarily. 😩 I definitely think buying used is the way to go for new airmen. My first car was $4500 and that thing lasted for years. I just recently purchased the car in the video for my wife. We needed more size, and shes been complaining about how she’s never had her dream car since I’ve married her 12 years ago. So I made an emotional decision and bought her a brand new car. Lol. But she’s happy, so 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️. Even with all my financial education, sometimes the wife wins. Lol

That would be great, but financing a car is a good way to build a credit score. I think if you already have a good credit score, then yea buy with cash if you can. But a lot of brand new airmen haven’t established credit yet, and this would be a great opportunity. Just my opinion.
