Yep, the retirement and disability is why I ended up commissioning last year after doing 13 years already (5 active duty and 8 in the Guard). I broke it down to my wife, 6 years obligation, plus another 4 to get an officers retirement and depending on what rank I am, might have to do another three years to retire at that rank. Long road but worth it.

You can request to become these when you complete a minimum of 18 months of service. There’s no guarantee you’ll be accepted so I’d recommend working your butt off the first 18 months so when it’s time to apply, people have your back and help out.

@hallmonitor10322 күн бұрын
And does this all apply to joining the ANG too? Weekend warriors
@Jodywithawhy2 күн бұрын
Some of it does, but not everything. The MLA and SCRA doesn’t really, but if you present your training orders while in tech school, or you get activated you can use it. The Space-A does, but you have to be on leave and present the leave form. The state benefits work for guard members and they usually have more access to benefits while serving than active members. The GI bill transfer applies, but it takes a long time to receive the full benefit while a traditional member. Skillbridge is authorized, but guard units have a hard time granting it because of manning issues. I’d recommend asking your leadership. The veteran hiring preference applies. The VA home loan applies after 6 years of guard, or if you get activated for 90 days.

@Jodywithawhy2 күн бұрын
That’s correct. The Air Force is always looking for maintainers, so your recruiter is just keeping it real. If you really want to join, I’d ask to see a list of all the jobs the squadron has for this month, and what’s still available. Then do research on those jobs and pick the one that appeals most to you. 🤙🏽

The best thing a green card holder can do is ask for a general aptitude contract, and pick your job at basic. They’ll have more options than your recruiter will have for sure. That’s my best advice. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
@1stgenceo7972 күн бұрын
Is the same suggested for the ASVAB? I understand you can only take the AFOQT 2x in your lifetime, but i really want to take an practice ASVAB to understand what I need to study and I also want the option to enlist as an airman and not an officer if things don't work out. I found out there is no ECLRP for line officers applying to a commissioned officer role. Student loans are a big part of my focus, I want them gone.
@Jodywithawhy2 күн бұрын
There’s no max attempts for the ASVAB. However there are retesting window limitations should you fail or want a retest. You can get with a recruiter for a practice test and see where you’re at. I’d recommend asking for the PiCAT if you really want a good measure. If you’re not familiar with I made a video breaking it down. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGauqKCEYt1opM0si=su8XuWWink_tS-dP
