I'm SO glad that Hawiian men dance. I love the beauty and grace of the men and their pleasant expressions. It's so much better than seeing men with scowls on their faces and a bad attitude on top of it.

Yes, Kuana Torres Kahele is a multiple award-winning Hawaiian artist who writes, sings, and plays Hawaiian music, dances and teaches hula, and makes beautiful flower and precious Ni'ihau shell lei, among his many talents. He was formerly in the group Nā Palapalai, and he is very active on social media. You can find many more videos of him performing on KZbin, including on my channel. Just do a search with the group or his name and youʻll find much more of his voice and music to enjoy.

Aloha e Romeo. Is "Phils" the Philippines? No ʻĀina Pilipino ʻoe. Mahalo no ke aʻo ʻana i ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. Thank you for learning the Hawaiian language. It is the best way to understand the songs (nā mele) and dance (hula) and culture (moʻomeheu) of Hawaiʻi.

Traditional costuming is much better.
@JodyY8082 жыл бұрын
This hula was not part of the show. It is a custom in Hawai'i for musicians on stage to call up people from the audience to perform or for someone to get up and dance if they feel like it. This dancer was just sitting watching the show and that is why he is dressed in his regular clothes. It's also why it took a while for them to decide which song to do.
@Djm85202 жыл бұрын
@@JodyY808 You seem to have felt the need to state the obvious. I merely said the traditional costumes are better.
@JodyY8082 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I misunderstood. Other viewers have criticized the way he or other dancers from the audience are dressed, and some people didn't like how long it took before they started playing the music in this video.

Telling a story in the dance🤔 i guess🤔
@JodyY8084 жыл бұрын
That's what the Hawaiian hula is. It tells a story through dance. Like other Pacific Island cultures, the Native Hawaiians had an oral culture and did not have a written language, so they passed on their history, genealogies, and stories through chants, songs, and dance. The Hawaiian language is also very poetic and filled with metaphors, so there is usually a double meaning in songs (sometimes playful and a little naughty like this one). As Kuana, the singer says, this is a song about a bird that flies from flower to flower, but can you guess what the hidden meaning is?
