I’ve watched this video so many times. It gives me great pleasure when i feel anxiety about the troublesome political state of our nation right now. Blessings to these Performers 🙏🏽

I'm so glad to hear how much you enjoy them. For these 50-minute concerts at the Zoo, I usually have to find parking a block away, wait an hour or so outside the Zoo till they let us in for the evening program and I can get a front row seat to shoot the video, and then wait another hour and a half till the "headliner" musicians go on stage. Waiting for the Brothers Cazimero and Nā Kamalei was definitely worth it. I think this was one of the Rolandʻs last public performances. He had collapsed on stage during their May Day show, so I was surprised but very happy to see he made it for this one in June 2014. I also see Keo Woolford (the second dancer from the left), the director of the film "The Haumāna," who passed away in 2016 at the age of 49. These recordings of their live performances are precious to me, and Iʻm so happy to share them with people who enjoy them, too!

Thatʻs Robert Cazimero, one of the most beautiful and well-known voices in Hawaiʻi. He had some training in voice at the University of Hawaiʻi, but he was blessed with that voice and musical talent and brought up in a musical family. He is also the kumu hula (hula teacher) of the hālau (hula school or group) and one of the best at narration or explanation while he and his brother, Roland, sing songs in the Hawaiian language.

How about that Roland and his amazing guitar skills! There will never be another like Roland. I’ve recently discovered The Brothers Cazimero and can’t stop watching. Roland and Robert: God gifted talent, no doubt. RIP Roland.

The Brothers Cazimero have been my favorite Hawaiian entertainers since their time in the Sunday Mānoa with Peter Moon in the 1970s. Now thereʻs an unbelievably talented guitar/ʻukulele musician you really need to see and hear although there are not many video recordings of the Sunday Mānoa or the Peter Moon Band, but you can find a few of him playing slack-key guitar with the late, great Gabby Pahinui. Sadly Peter Moon also passed away in 2018. "Waiʻalae" with Gabby Pahinui and Peter Moon kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip2pgKd3m8itjq8

Itʻs a called a "hapa haole" (half- Caucasian or foreign) song because itʻs in English, and refers to several things in popular hapa haole songs of the 1930s-50s. The Brothers Cazimero (and their former group, The Sunday Mānoa) were part of the "Hawaiian Renaissance" of the 1970s and 80s that brought back the Hawaiian language, music, and culture that had been repressed or "Americanized" for so long, and helped it blossom and expand into the new encompassing life and culture of Hawaiʻi today.

They are Hawaiians of Portuguese ascendence,hence the name Cazimero, which in Portuguese is Casimiro. The independent Kingdom of Hawaii agreed with the Kingdom of Portugal to receive thousands of Portuguese immigrants around 1860/70. The Ukelele was introduced by the Portuguese.

@JodyY8085 жыл бұрын
The dancers were just invited to join their hula teacher, Robert Cazimero, and his brother, Roland, at this short 45-minute performance at the Zoo, so they did not wear the same clothes (though they tried to wear the same colors). In general, for this kind of modern hula, especially "hapa-haole" songs in English, the dancers do not wear a special costume as they would for traditional "ancient" hula or for music from the Monarchy Period in the late 19th century. On a stage for a show, they would probably just wear the same Aloha shirt and pants and perhaps a simple lei around their necks.
