This dude is my favorite male Hawaiian dancer. His slower dances are very sensual w/tender dance moves. He has perfected his craft. He is an awesome representative of the Hawaiian story telling in dance. The first Hawaiian dancers were male. Mahalo so much for dancing for us. We appreciate. Your dance uplifts our soul. 🌺

I love hula. I have watched native Americans jump around like their feet are on fire… hopping here and there, beating their drums, screaming their songs but hula is so elegant and the traditional songs are beautiful. I get that different strokes for different folks, but really, Polynesian traditions rock!

Yes, you can see how experienced and at ease Bully is. Though it seems like such a happy time, It makes me sad to see Keo Woolford, who passed away in Nov. 2016, and Roland Cazimero, who passed away in July 2017 because I know how fortunate I was to see Robert and Roland (and 'Ala) and Nā Kamalei perform so many times in my life since the 1970s, and we will never be able to see or hear this fabulous music and hula again. Iʻm just grateful we have these videos to remember the good times...

Is the steps of the hula standard for every song? I love the steps and I’m eager to learn it...
@JodyY8085 жыл бұрын
There are some basic standard steps and hand motions in hula, but as in any dance, there is choreography, and the kumu hula, or hula teacher, makes the choreography for the dancers. Many dances or styles of hula are passed on within a hālau, or school. If you are really interested in learning to dance hula, you should find a school or group with a real kumu who can teach you about the meaning of the songs and the history and culture that are part of the dance. I donʻt know where you live, but see if there is a "hula hālau" or hula classes in your area. (There are many all over the world now.) I donʻt recommend trying to learn only from videos or Internet lessons, but you can learn some basic information about the steps and different styles of hula, including ancient (kahiko) and modern (ʻauana). Once you have some basic knowledge, and especially if you start taking classes, you can watch the huge number of videos of hula performances online (like mine), and then you appreciate them and learn from watching very good dancers or hālau.

The Hawaiian hula (dance) tells a story. These are the lyrics in the Hawaiian language and the English tranlation-- www.huapala.org/No/Noenoe_Maikai_Aloha.html

@@JodyY808 oh, thank you so much. I will pay more attention with the info you gave me. I think the movements are gracious and very beautiful. Is the language still used nowadays?
@JodyY8084 жыл бұрын
@@sophiahuber4756 Yes, the Hawaiian language, once banned by English speakers who took over the Islands and almost became an extinct language, is now taught in Hawaiian language immersion schools and regular school & college classes and is widely used in Hawaiʻi today. All street names and most parks, government buildings, and public places are in the Hawaiian language. And of course, Hawaiian music and hula are continuing the preservation and use of the language. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_language
