There would be no shock factor for show rating if the judges had no emotion or reaction. I’m sure the directors ask them to exaggerate to add drama to their criticisms. At the end of the day drama sells. Different versions of cooking shows like in the UK differentiate from most and are more genuine.

Yeah, he gets so much hate for being really harsh and not giving constructive criticism. However, he is just a restaurant owner, not a chef. He was on the show because he knew restaurants better than the other two and what would be accepted there. He doesn't know as much about food as Gordon or Graham so he's meant to be the view of the everyday person. They chose him to judge because he knows what will appeal to customers (as most of the contestants want their own restaurant) better than the chefs because they focus more on flavor and presentation rather than the actual dish. People won't often buy a meal if they don't know the ingredients in it so he's there to keep it restaurant and customer focused.

lol shut the hell up and stop excusing everything with the word "honest". Even Gordon pushes that a bit too far but atleast he tells you how to improve, and you can tell he really cares and sees his contestants on Hell's kitchen as his chefs, meanwhile Joe is literally just being an asshole (im talking about the videos of him on youtube) where he just goes above and beyond to insult someone and throw away their dish without even tasting it, while Ramsay makes sure to taste it even if it looks like crap, because you dont judge a book by its cover.

@@mikeywith4ys I feel like the American version always wants their watchers to have a villain to hate. Jo is the easiest target. He has his soft moments too and if you watch the episode where the team challenge is in a restaurant, he is much less harsh on the chefs and is genuinely kind to the customers. I think that he is coached to be mean and he is scripted to be the villain. No-one would take him seriously if he were as horrible as we've seen sometimes. All in all, I think he is a very harsh judge but the producers wanted to make him mean. He cares a lot about food and knows when praise is due.

I like MasterChef Junior SO MUCH better because all the judges are parents themselves, so they know kids do WAY better with "constructive criticism". I think the stress that the kids go through is easily 2x - 3x the adults, so when they falter and need help, the judges don't hesitate & jump right in to assist because they WANT them to succeed! Because of the supportive environment of the junior show, it's so much more enjoyable to watch and honestly it's inspiring to watch these kids make 5 🌟 restaurant quality dishes!

tbh, i never disliked joe. his douchey persona is really entertaining and he has a shit ton of nice moments himself. what ppl need to learn is that he prolly doesnt even act like that in real life. AND HE'S GREAT WITH KIDS CMON

You gotta love how there's two separate series in this and it's still only 6 minutes long. Man Joe was an *asshole* in the early seasons wasn't he?

Of course he’s not 100% bad. I mean this guy was supportive of Luca and when Luca made bad dishes, Joe made sure to deliver the news as gently as possible.

I haven't actually watched master chef, I've just seen clips, so maybe i don't have full context for who joe actually is. Anyone willing to dress like a giant pizza and knock stuff over to make some kids laugh can't be all bad. Still not too fond of him, but maybe I'm wrong 😬

I think in my opinion Christine WAS the three judges' favorite. Just as Joe said when he first met Christine she gets excited and her face brightness up when she talks about food. Even though she lost her ability to see. That did mean she lost her spark.~ It made her shine brighter.~
