Tiki Barber is an elite, world class athlete. Joe Beningo (and Evan) are non athletic super fans. Tiki's eyes sees the game from a completely different spectrum that Beningo can never understand. Tiki's logic comes from actually DOING IT! Beningo's logic comes from that he has his whole identity based on the outcome of a football team. If you wanted to know how to make a perfect steak, would you ask a former Michelin star chef? Or would you ask the guy who writes for Top Chef magazine?

Not necessarily. Playing will give you an edge but the sport changes constantly, and its definitely possivle for someone that hasnt played to see the sport the same way players can. There are NFL coaches that never played passed highschool. Not to mention there are guys that play professionally that couldn't even name all of the teams. Not every player is a good analyst, and not every good analyst needs to be a former player.
