I’m 75, not a musician, but I love the blues, SRV, Clapton, blues/rock, Hendrix, Cream, oh man, there are so many. That said, in today’s world, Joe is my favorite. Great player, great singer, great backup singers, and great, great, band.

Kenny is so right. Passion is the fuel that pushes you through the hard times. I'm a drummer that started playing in bands at 20 years old. I'm 59 now and still do gigs, record, etc.. Am I a famous musician? No. Do I make a living playing drums? No (I did at one time) but I play 4-6 gigs a month with different bands at various venues in different cities in my state. Did I "make it"? Depends on what your definition of making it is. Over the years I've traveled all over the Western States, Europe and have had some of the most amazing experiences playing with famous musicians, actors and have met lifelong friends along the way. The passion to play is still there and I love it.

'Making it' is maintaining a lifestyle of your choosing whilst minimising harm to others, both 2 & 4 legged. People remember how you make them feel, not what you do for them. Gigging for 40 years, I'd say you have made plenty of people happy, most importantly, you. Regards, 54yo Australian musician.

I think we've entered Joe's best era. It's so great he's producing albums for other artists, he's recorded so much. Oh...and he has like every guitar or amp anyone could ever want. He also knows how they work. That's a dream producer for any guitar player, especially since Joe loves so many genres and players.

Fantastic show. It's always great to hear Joe talk about his career because he knows what the business is truly about. I saw him last year and it was a night I'll never forget. My 30yr old son (who was big into Screamo, Grunge etc) went with me and he enjoyed it as much as I did. We were standing cheering Joe on we didn't want him to stop playing. I realized everyone in that room was seeing something that you can't bottle. I wanted to take video of the whole show so I could keep it forever. After we took a little video we looked at each other stuck our phones in our pockets and it was like when I was growing up going to concerts and no distractions. We were really close to the stage like row 5 or 6 and happened to be sitting with people like us and when it was appropriate we would whistle carry on calling for Joe to keep going or whoopingand several times actually more than several times the more he knew we were enjoying it I guess he kept coming over to where we were and it was so exciting that he responded to the crowd and he didn't stay right with us the whole time I'm just saying he came over to us several times when we were really enjoying really encouraging it was absolutely fantastic. We were so sad at the end of the show we kept trying to get Joe to keep going and he did a little but I can't imagine what it takes to do 2 hours of what he does. Of what his band does but we were high four or five hours we could not stop talking about it. Luckily we had a two-and-a-half-hour drive to get home he's turned on to Joe and he has expanded his friendships with other people about Joe. His son is crazy about Joe, his son is 9. Joe and the band gave everything they had for that one special time for us. They do that every other night, I appreciate that experienced so much, it's something my son and I will cherish our whole lives we got to see Smokin Joe! Thank you for the great interview! ❤

As time goes on, I find myself liking Joe Bonimasa more and more. Growing up in the Utica area, I remember when Joe came around. Joe, at one time, took lessons from the same teacher. A friend of mine told me that there wasn't anything else that Joe could learn from that teacher. As the years rolled by and the kids were on their own, I've found myself spending more time playing guitar and listening to artists like Joe. Just a few months ago, I was about to quit music and leave the band. My time in the 101st Airborne with 105mm howitzers had caught up to me. I couldn't hear what I was playing or what the rest of the band was playing. Fortunately, the VA was able to give me new hearing aids and they are a game changer. Being able to listen to interviews like this is inspirational. Thanks, Joe, for taking the time to be interviewed, and thanks Kenny for doing this interview.

Joes story is great. Hes a few years younger than me and also from Ny and I was starting on guitar round the time he was opening for BB King. Knew who he was cause he was a young virtuoso at that time. I played guitar a few years tuen wind up switching to bass and have played bass for the next 30 years. Flash to 2018 and bought my wife a new car n had sirius Xm And we started listening to BB KING Blues station and got our real exposure to Joe B music and my wife and I fell in love with him and really sent us down the rabbit hole to listening to all different Blues artists. He inspired me to pickup the guitar again and we love him. We go see him live every chance we can. Loves these interviews with him. Such a great guy. His life story would make a great movie!

I think that the best part of this interview was the fact that I came away from it seeing Joe and Kenny as being very personable guys. I mean, I am 59, been a musician since age 8. My passion has always been in singing. I learn guitar to play along with my dad and Chet. I learned piano so that I could always find a gig lol. I wrote and sang for me. I spent a ton of time singing demos in Nashville, met a ton of artists, but I loved being in the background just doing my thing and listening and learning. Most artists that I have met are just like Joe and Kenny, down to earth people who have an insatiable appetite for the music. I loved this interview, I mean, absolutely great job Kenny! God bless.

I've been digging your drumming way before I knew your name. Now I see you everywhere with every Iconic band. Then here you are hosting this interview & your great at that to. Your passion message resonates with me. Too many choose to give up their passion they say outta practicality, but it's never practical to abandon your passion. That's our life force & it's that life force that tends to draw communities that fit you. I started drumming at 11 & gave it up at 19 for practical reasons. In my 49th year an old DJ from Texas I met at a coffee clutch invited me to an international jam at his place. It hooked me & the community grew quick. I wound up drumming again after 30 years & learning to sing at the same time. I hope you maintain this Pod Cast. Hearing these back stories keeps folks plugged in even when they get side tracked. Thanks again, great job here & Enjoy !

So happy to have seen the lead in - "JOE BONAMASSA " and I'm on it! I listen to Joe all day long, as often as I cam. Thank you so much for having your music out there. Like honey, I'm there. Love the quality of your merch, too!Your KZbin videos are so endearing, it's like I know you and the crew. Ya bring a lot of joy to my life! I'm so proud you took those chances and have put in such phenomenal effort with an obvious ENORMOUS GIFT - just "THANK YOU VERY MUCH JOE BONAMASSA!" Great interview Kenny Aronoff! I'll watch more of your interviews from here out, and would love to hear your story as well.❤ ❤❤❤❤

Great interview, brother. A bass player friend of mine back home in Mississippi called a couple of weeks ago and said, "I got us tickets to see Joe Bonamassa @ Beau Rivage Theatre in Biloxi, Ms., March 8th. Can you make it?" YES! I'm excited to finally see him and the band, and it's front row seats! Been a fan for a lot of years and play guitar, so I'm primed & pumped! Thanks bro. Kenny, Lord bless ya, and good job asking the right questions and letting Joe go! ✌️🙏

The RAH concert Joe talks about, i ran across, totally by accident, flipping thru channels on TV and saw Joe on PBS. I heard "Dango/Mountain Time" and I was blown away. That was an amazing concert.

@@KennyAronoffOfficial Kenny, I' seen you play, not in person, at more than a couple of Kenney Center Honors Shows. I know this question is like asking a photographer how much a camera costs but how long does it take to prepare for shows of that magnitude? The show honoring Paul McCartney comes to mind. The medley with Tyler was stellar!

@@craighermle7727 Craig, The way I prepare for a show like the Kennedy Center Honors is.. I am very very focused. We get the songs one week before the show. I write every note the drummer played on the original recording of each song. I mark the tempo of each recording. I then learn the latest version the artist has performed that song on KZbin and I make a very detailed chart of that version and mark the tempo . The show is on Sunday and we start rehearsing on Friday.. 7 songs for 7 famous artists. If I play for 2 people being Honored, I have to learn 14 songs. My first year at the Kennedy Center Honors... I played drums honoring The Who and George Jones. 2 completely different artists with different styles. When the MD ( musical director) shows up at the first rehearsal, he has his charts which are different than the ones I have made because he has spent the entire week talking to all the artists making changes to the structure of each song and sometimes a complete different version. So I cram and rewrite every day and night right up to the live performance. It's intense and you have to be extremely focused.

Awesome awesome interview. Funny for me as I'm a fan of Joe's and not just his incredible playing but his "person". That's what brought me here. I had never heard Kenny talk or seen his personality so this was a two pronged approach for me. Kenny one of my favorite drummers as well . Such good feel. The meter is Kenny's "feel" and the feel is real. Subscribed.

Kenny........Joe is the most universal musician out there....plus he's an upstate NY boy like Joey Belladonna and I lol......gotta love him. Joe is one of the most real, down to earth guys out there and he plays from the heart....through feeling. To me, blues is a natural "feel" kinda music and I get that from Joe's playing all the time. I also love his transition from rock (like Zepplin) to his melodic stuff like "Mountain Time"......amazing & multi faceted
