Mr Rose will probably not remember a day that I will never forget. It must have been 1967/68. My Dad took me to Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, PA. The Pirates were playing the Reds. During pre-game warmups a ball rolled up to wall by the 1st base side. It was right in front of me! I jumped over, grabbed the ball & returned to my seat. Then two ushers approached and demanded that I give them the ball or else get expelled from the park. Mr Rose saw the disturbance and came over to inquire. After one of the ushers explained the offense, Mr Rose told them to go away and leave me slone. He even signed the ball that I got to keep. Forever grateful. Thank you, Charlie Hustle!

Pete didn't seem to want to look Joe in the eyes. He was playing to the audience the entire interview.

If Jose altuve gets into the Hall of Fame or any of those Houston Astros players that were involved in the cheating scandal are allowed into the Hall of Fame then Pete Rose should absolutely be in the Hall of fame. This is not up for discussion.

Yeah Johnny Bench, Mike Schimdt and Joe Morgan were the ones that set this agreement up for Pete Rose to get back into baseball. In fact, Johnny Bench talk about it on Dan Patrick's show back in 2018. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJCXlqiFjM6blbc

Doesn’t matter if Pete only bet on the Reds to win, if he didn’t bet on them some games it says he doesn’t have faith in his team that night and how does anyone know that he didn’t make moves during the game to help him win his bets

The one true thing said here was that Rose was screwed out of the HOF when they changed the rule on eligibility. Otherwise, Rose has zero credibility. Why would someone stick up for him.

Put him in the HOF but don’t give him the HOF speech and ceremony. Don’t give him that moment on the spotlight. But put him in as he is deserving. Same with all the steroid guys. Put them in but no speech or ceremony and their plaque should say why.

Pete is right about those in there are far from angels, I mean racism of the old time players, also the rumor (which is probably true) of Ty Cobb by his admission he killed someone? I get it Pete gambled number one sin of the game, lied, did not throw games, say what you want he did not throw them, not excusing anything he did, but I think baseball really needs to look at this with a wider lense same as they should with the ROIDS, I mean Barry Bonds was a HOF player before he turned into the hulk, and I also understand why those records are tainted too, but case by case, you can notice some bloated stats out of anywhere. As for PETE you can’t tell him you can get in if you never gamble, especially now that you advertise gambling during games and podcasts, I mean please now.

Betting is against MLB rules. There's a sign posted in every clubhouse.
@@TheBatugan77 and there is no debating that but you can’t dictate what a player does after they leave the sport which is what they want him to do, they want him to stop betting now who cares what he does are you telling me no player now bets on games of any kind including their own sport after they leave the game? I mean please with the commissioner thinking you are going to have an 83 year old man do flips for you for an award after you used him any chance you could for functions
@EatUpBoise3 ай бұрын
There is no keeping him out of the HOF. That’s where he belongs. They just don’t want him to see it while he is living. MLB has a great opportunity to show that people can right their wrongs and induct him. Being a good person to get into the hall is what sets baseball apart. To say he is no different today than he was 40 years ago is ridiculous.

@@davidmitchell6873 Do you understand that the company is now breaking their own rules by allowing gambling in the sport of baseball. There was a reason why they never had a team in Vegas, way to close and tempting for gambling, but now they have opened the doors and let them in.

If it were up to me, the Hall of Fame would only be based on your performance on the field. The character clause is always applied selectively and often hypocritically. Just base it on performance on the field. So yes to Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Eddie Cicotte, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Roger Clemens, Gary Sheffield, Manny Ramirez, and anybody else I'm forgetting. The character clause has reached the point where we have so many great players not in the Hall of Fame that I don't even know what it's supposed to be measuring anymore.

In 1989, I said Pete shouldn't be in the Hall. In 2024, I now have three reasons why he should: 1. MLB's exploitation of the Steroid Era (post-strike McGwire/Sosa home run chase). 2. MLB inviting Pete to appear in the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati, especially considering he couldn't attend as a fan. 3. The Oakland A's potential relocation to Las Vegas. With all that being said, there is no doubt in my mind his "lifetime ban" is truly a lifetime ban. Within 72 hours of his eventual passing, Major League Baseball will announce Pete Rose will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame posthumously, because, regardless of the gambling issues, that is where he belongs.

Pete Rose should be put into the Hall of Fame while he is alive......competition in all things is betting on yourself to win...to make the first sale, to sell the most cars, to be the highest over quota, to hit the most home runs, to score the most touchdowns, to run this highest profit margin, etc.....there is no indication or admission that he ever bet on himself or his team to lose...!
