he did a good job but I think the main issue is that the album in a lot of cases felt like he was seeking approval from hip-hop purists so much that it overshadowed him just making great songs that could speak for themselves, so it felt very safe and bland at times. I think he has potential to grow though and hopefully he can just get back to having fun since his older music had that aura and appeal
@jaebarnes
@jaebarnes Жыл бұрын
@@AudioTheory I didn't get safe or bland from this album at all. And people need to revisit his back catalog as well he has quality albums. "Gazebo" being my favorite by him, and I discovered the album years after it had been out because I simply wanted to hear his story and more about him. I think older "hip hop purists" trying to gatekeep the genre is pointless especially when we have someone like Jack who can REALLY RAP. as much trash that pollutes the airwaves now it's no way I'm going to be over critical of a white rapper who actually can rap and isn't trying to be someone he is not. "Jackman" is refreshing to me because we got enough opp, NY drill trash, junkie trap rap from our so called black artists. I can appreciate what Jack has to offer without trying to dissect everything about it. 💯
@AudioTheory
@AudioTheory Жыл бұрын
@@jaebarnes true, and yeah i love all his old work especially Confetti and Gazebo. But now that he's a heartthrob superstar it seems like the pressure is weighing on him to not be perceived as a tiktok rapper for teenage girls and I don't want him to make music to desperately *prove* he can rap because such and such said he has no substance, I just want him to continue "doing him" without worrying about the hip-hop purists is all. "Wasted Youth" and "Heavy Hitter" have a mainstream sound but he executes them so flawlessly and authentically that I think he can satisfy both sides of the spectrum by doing a blend of it all in his next album
@jaebarnes
@jaebarnes Жыл бұрын
@@AudioTheory agreed. I just want every artist to make the music they want to make. And in Jack's case he has a ton of music that I personally feel is great at just doing that. I'm sure the major label wants another smash record but it will happen on its own. I really don't understand the opinions most the times when I watch a JBP clip. It sounds like people who go into every project trying to be negative. Like if I don't like an artist I don't even check they album out, it seems at times they don't like certain artists for reasons unknown then can't wait to pod about how they don't like the album. I doubt anyone other than Parks actually listened to it. Lol

I think our people gotta just start coming out and admitting they just don't wanna hear white rappers because it's quite clear this is all based on personal dislike. Which is fine, you don't have to like someone. But when he makes commercial, uptempo records he was a culture vulture (which is interesting to me because I HIGHLY doubt anyone would tell DJ Drama that he brought a culture vulture onto his label) And now Jack makes more soulful, storytelling records on this album and it's "I played 3 records then turned it off" Like I said, our people got the right to say whatever when it comes to hip hop but it's disingenuous to sit here and act like Jack isn't talented, especially for being 23-24 during this generation. The dislike/disinterest is because he's white.

As I see it he got rich and there's nothing left to prove for him. It actually reminds me of J Cole earlier albums with all that honesty, vulnerability and the lack of swagger. Moreover, Jack happened to be a great storyteller. I've got tired of Jackman. after listening to it around 15 times without skipping any tracks which must be the best mark for the album I think!

L for Parks L for Ice. Y’all are BUGGIN. Skipping through this album.? It was so easy to listen to. The beats were very good. Rhymes was mid to ok but, album easy to get through.

It's hilarious that they say Joe don’t pay his debts because he doesn't do features he was paid for either. I know two artists back in early 2000-2010 who paid Joe couple racks for a feature and never heard back from them 😂 they were in the same circle and Joe was promoting he was doing features while in town. Ran off on the plug

Jack is rap better than most of the other rappers out today. Most of the other people sound the same with the same content. New beat same flows.

I hate how old heads always thing music has to be 5 min 10 mins long. The album was actually really good to me. Everyone keeps over thinking it. If it was Eminem or something no one would have anything to say. He’s telling his self and how his life is. OLD heads do not like stuff like dat. He’s not rapping abt guns and drugs and all dat he’s trying to be his self everyone has so much to say abt it. That’s ok bc at the end of the day they are putting money in his pocket.
