It isn't just the music... or lyrics .It is the 'gentle' in the 'gentleness' in the singer's voice. It hurts to listen to this in a most beautiful way.
@TheBWJohnson9 жыл бұрын
perfectly spoken. in a world where everyone seeks perfection, as if in a ballet - they forget the pain that goes into every step. and it's ok sometimes to allow your voice to show where you've been, that you're human...

Well said, TheRestfulwind. The gentleness struck me as soon as he started singing -- that's exactly the word I was thinking. What a beautiful voice.

TheBWJohnson I agree! I have one Joe Callicot song on a vinyl collection; "Fare thee , baby". And now on the internet days i've found some more here on youtube. And i think he's one of the greatest of those gentle style country blues men, alongside with Mississippi John Hurt.

Beautifully done video. I was instantly back in a time where so many things were wrong. An eye glance at the wrong person when they were having a bad day, and you were the wrong color, would bring horrible trouble to your house. I remember the late night sirens blaring, I prayed it would not come close to my neighborhood. Unless a person lived it, there’s no way they know that feeling. The incredible knowing that people hung to these kind of songs as a refuse, living for death to stop their suffering is heart wrenching.
@TheBWJohnson3 жыл бұрын
thanks, A Layne. think we all got that feeling deep down in our gut every now and then. there's just some people (like Joe Callicott) who can express that in sound. world keeps turning. people still getting messed up and turned around. we just have to keep on pressing on and share the love. there may be suffering, but when i hear this - the love is all i hear. thanks, again for taking the time to share a few words..

I appreciate your concern for maintaining the purity of the surroundings where the apple core was left. Be rest assured that said apple core would leave many nutrients behind as it composts. I do brake for butterflies after all and so I'd never leave anything behind that would corrupt this river. I imagine,in my mind's eye, this river to be serene and slow as it has no place to be.I hope a raccoon found the apple core and enjoyed the sweet treasure, as it stopped to hear the music as it lingered on its' banks in the shade of the canopy of trees dripping in wisteria and perfumed with jasmine.That raccoon has good taste in music.

@@TheBWJohnson There is no doubt this World is in a Hell of a Fix , but I take a lot of comfort and inspiration singing some of the songs you have chosen to upload ( I would have liked to listen to your radio show). I note a lot of wisdom and hope for humanity in much of what you have written to many people. I think if more people were to listen and enjoy the earlier recordings it may take some of the sting out of life especially if everyone started singing.
@TheBWJohnson4 жыл бұрын
@@nevillegriffiths4395 I appreciate your kind words, and i'm with you Neville. For me, these songs - like so much great art - are a living example of the mercy we all need right now. Guess that's why i started to share some of these old songs in the first place and glad to see people still finding them. because they were there for me - when i needed them most. (and of course - i keep returning to them) the radio show too. 'cause sometimes you can just feel like you're all alone. then a song comes on (and if you're open to it) whatever negative (that "sting" as you say) was spinning around in your soul dissolves. and in that moment we afford ourselves a little bit of that mercy. i got that more times than i can tell, and wanted to give a little in return. But you know - it's all about turning that "hell" into beauty. and singing is the pinnacle - so keep at it. nothing more powerful than the voice that can connect their boundless spirit with yours. that's love. and that's what keeps the whole thing turning, ascending... so, so good.
